Ultimate chiller. Don't listen to these people saying you have to work to get an A. If you're chill enough you'll get one. Shoutout John Moore, would love to grab a pint with you.
The lectures were pretty boring and there's a lot of vocabulary to learn that can get confusing. The midterm and final were both take home tests, but definitely study before the exams so you at least know where to find the answers in your notes, since the questions are pretty specific. It's clear he's passionate about the material.
professor Moore is amazing. he is such a sweet professor and you can tell he loves teaching his class (even if the audience doesn't care much). he's really goofy and sweet, and I would 100000% take a class with him again. he's also a really easy person to talk to and the TA I had was also so sweet.
First couple weeks are a lot of information that's not exactly dinosaurs, but he makes the information interesting. Easy grader, and fun class! Would recommend for anyone needing the GE.
This class is very easy to pass but expect to put in a good/decent amount of effort to get an A. Moore is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, the class is well structured and I would take it again.
So kind and incredibly knowledgable in the subject. Gave great answers to any questions asked (and lots of people asked questions)
Prof Moore is an amazing person and will make you laugh. You can tell he loves teaching about this topic and genuinely cares about students. Labs and the short quizzes after lecture were really helpful. He doesn't take attendance so it can become easy to skip but skipping won't really help you out for the midterm and final. Either way, loved it
Attendance optional, test questions found in weekly lecture quizzes (on Canvas, can take unlimited times until you get 100%) and mainly in lecture slides. Always attend lab as the online labs are usually more difficult and you can't ask as many questions. Lectures can be long but he always provides slides + detailed notes of lecture.
Prof was clear on expectations, flexible with accommodations too. Lectures can be long, but he's so passionate it goes by well. Class was article-reading heavy, as thats to be expected of stem courses. Was also very accessible to someone who wasnt too familiar with chemistry. Overall, would take again -he's so nice and knowledgeable, patient, etc.
Great lecturer and is so sweet!
I've never had a professor that was as kind and helpful as Moore. He's super clear and the lectures are actually interesting. I've never written review on here but he is my favorite prof so far. He's also super interactive and has us do worksheets which I haven't done since high school and really enjoyed! Such a fun class.
If you are a humanities major looking for an easy Area C GE, look no further. A bit dry but the professor is clearly enthusiastic about the class and its topics. Graded based on labs, short lecture quizzes (2-3 questions each) and multiple choice at-home midterm and final. If you are good at multiple choice you should have no issue with this class.
Props to Moore for making lecture very engaging and having enthusiasm to teach every day. Easy GE class to take. His exams, quizzes and labs were easy to understand as long as you understand how to read cladograms.
attendance not mandatory, i went to no lectures after the midterm and still passed. very easy to pass class as long as you average C's on final and midterm and do all labs in section. overall easy class and would recommend.
Very easy class. If you need to knock out area C, take Earth 7 with Moore. Good, enthusiastic lectures and the midterm and final are both online and take home. Just take notes and it's an easy A
Professor Moore is very enthusiastic about the subject and his lectures are very easy to follow. The class consists of a short mini-quiz on each lecture but you can take it as many times as you want to get 100%. Labs are easy and you get them done within section. The midterm and final are both open note and online so this course is very passable.
The lectures were easy to follow and clear. I was able to swing an A on both midterm and final with minimal studying thanks to the effective class structure. Labs were great to help us deepen our understanding, especially with a great TA. As a humanities major who struggles with all STEM, this class was perfect for an area C ge.
Weekly labs, midterm and final. No required readings! I loved taking this class, the concepts are challenging at first but the content is so so fun. Definitely go to office hours if stuck, he is really cool and helpful. This is a great GE class, make sure you study cladograms and forming study groups helps a lot. Take Moore!!
I took his Dinosaur class Winter 2020 Q and I loved it. He was very accessible outside of class and had a lot of opportunities for office hours. He is a pretty patient and caring prof. He will take the time to break things down and explain them. We did not use a text book and the lectures were kind of long. Make sure to study cladograms and notes.
I loved Dr. Moore. Took this course to knock out my C requirement, did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. So interesting, great discussion topics in forums, forgiving quizzes. Midterm and Final were just challenging enough to keep it interesting. Not easy, not hard, an awesome class. Lectures were broken up in small parts, kept me engaged.
I'm not that good at science, but this class is solid for a GE. There are chances to better your grade if you do significantly better on the midterm or final.
The entire class was asynchronous, which was quite nice. The quizzes were easy and they allowed you to retake until correct. The other weekly assignments weren't that bad, pretty easy to do. The midterm and final were a lot harder than the rest of the quizzes/assignments. Would not take in person as I relied heavily on my notes for tests.
The best professor I've ever had, so organized, kind, and lectures were really interesting, I would always look forward to them. Not an easy A and the material is sometimes challenging but if you put in the effort to watch lectures and do the labs, you'll be fine. I would recommend 100% and I loved the course. Also, the textbook isn't necessary!
Awesome professor! Professor Moore taught the course material in a way that made it interesting, he was helpful outside of class, and the work load is very manageable. The material itself was easy enough to understand, and this course has actually gotten me interested in the earth science field. One of my favorite professors so far, easily!
