MOORE J
Goated class, one of the nicest teachers at this school, Moore is very passionate about invertebrate paleobiology and wants all of his students to succeed.
SO MUCH MATERIAL. I ended up taking this p/np because I think if I actually tried to get an A, I would have had an aneurysm. I appreciated how passionate Dr. Moore is about Paleontology and his lectures; I also appreciated his cheat sheets. There's just so much material that both my sheets were full and there wasn't enough room for everything.
Super fun teacher! Takes a few weeks to get into dinosaurs but the foundational knowledge is really helpful to learn. Lectures can drag on a tiny bit after an hour but there are so many Canvas materials to help you stay on top of stuff if you zone out. Labs get graded pretty strictly but not too bad. Two cheat sheets for final! Great class.
The class average for the midterm was a 69%, which seems to be typical for this class. Seems ridiculous that a general education class that doesn't have paleontology majors covers as much information as this class does. Don't take it unless you want to waste your time memorizing characteristics of 100 species of dinosaurs.
Pros: Releases notes of his lectures and underlines important parts. Cheat sheets on the midterm and the final. 2 short take home quizzes each week, could take multiple times until we got 100%. Cons: The labs are graded hard for no reason, practically had to beg TA's to help us. A lot of information and memorization especially on the final.
professor provided notes after each lecture. mandatory sections (with worksheets) but they were fun and simple. final and midterm were harder than expected, but he allows cheat sheets
He is very devoted and great at lecturing, not really any hard outside assignments just really work hard on the labs because they are a big portion of your grade. The tests were a bit more difficult than I thought, but you get cheat sheets so it is definitely manageable.
Took as a GE and obviously passionate about his field. Did much better on final than midterm that he rounded my grade. Weekly section mandatory as worksheets due at the end but my TA was chill and easy to ask questions to. Not much to memorize but understand general concepts and use of cheat sheets on midterm and final (don't negate studying tho!)
He seems nice and makes things interesting however if you're not into the subject it gets boring. You don't rlly have to attend lectures but definitely section. Midterm was rlly difficult most failed it however depending on final he'll bring scores up. As long as you do weekly section work you can pass the class.
A lot of material and memorization. Dont take for easy GE. Tests in class
He's a really good lecturer and just a really entertaining guy. The class is super boring tho, the exams were difficult and in-person.
Prof Moore was an amazing professor. You can tell he really cares about his students and his subject. Really interesting class, but beware, the tests are difficult. You are allowed a one-page cheat sheet, but don't rely on it!! Otherwise, labs have a worksheet due at the end of each class. Overall I recommend this class!
