I feel like Prof Robinson was the first to make me feel like I actually LEARNED. He does a weekly reflection on readings, 3 short papers and a lengthy final. (he also offers extra credit) The lecture was 3 hours but it was half lecture, half documentary WHICH were super interesting. I literally see the world different. Loved this class!

Amazing professor! I've taken 130SG, 130LA, and 130GR with him. Kind of disappointed he doesn't teach more undergrad courses. You'll have to skim the readings and pinpoint the main ideas. Gives great alternative points to generally held truths in society. Definitely won't regret taking his courses !

Robinson was very opinionated about his socialist beliefs, but he did encourage class discussion. Class was diverse with different materials (articles, videos, lecture materials, guest speakers). There are no tests, but LOTS of essays and readings. I did learn a lot from this class, but wish it had more viewpoints.

Really eye opening course. Lots of topics that normal classes won't/don't cover. Helllllllllla reading. Grading on papers felt subjective based on TA but not extremely hard. Class is 3 hours but usually half includes a movie

This class will teach you so much about the world and you will leave this class as a brand new person each time. He's a great professor and he really knows his stuff. Lots of papers. Reflections every week, 3 short papers & a final paper. But it's worth it honestly. This class is one of the most amazing courses i've taken in UCSB.

Hard class, hard ass. I have watched him call out student after student for falling asleep in class or for using their phones. He will kick you out. But, he does a great ob of balancing lecturing, discussion, and video materials.

Prof Robinson is a highly respected professor. His courses are discussion based & you're allowed to share your opinions & feelings. He won't discredit you or embarrass you. His lectures will change your perspective about the world. There's movies every lecture but they're all really interesting & life-changing. Lots of reading and 3 short papers.

This is the class I learned the most in during all my time at UCSB. It is also one of the most difficult classes I've taken. Workload is no joke. Don't take it if you aren't passionate about Latin America and sociology. If you are, it's amazing. I-clicker tests/attendance are VERY annoying. Robinson thinks he's amazing (he is) but that can be eh..

Prof. Robinson is a very passionate professor here, making his classes very interesting. He has so much experience and lectures aren't enough time to cover it! No tests, just reading logs and 3 essays! The third essay is a take home final 7-8 pages. He also offers lots of extra cred. This class was really eye opening, everyone should take it

Robinson is the most passionate, analytical, and intelligent professor I have had in 2 years at SB. Lectures are extremely clear and thought out and he gives generous time for people to ask questions that he responds to well. This mans been all over the world, serious experience. You have to have good work ethic to enjoy it tho!HAVE TO TAKE A CLASS

This guy is hands down the most intelligent person I have ever encountered. This class was absolutely eye opening. No tests but there are a few papers/quizzes on the readings and he gives a lot of e.c opps so its really easy to get an A. Really fair, honest, and kind. (don't fall asleep though, he will call you out but duh cause thats super rude)

Professor Robinson's lectures were a little dry at times and his readings were sometimes dense, but overall I learned a great deal of information in his globalization course. Also beware of his weekly quizzes!

If you do the reading, you should be fine. But there's a lot of it and it was so tedious most of the time. The least amount per week we had was about 50 pages. extra credit available. Lectures are even more boring, especially since it is not used at all for assignments or exams. you'll either love the class or hate it & for me it was the latter.

The material is interesting, just not the 200 pages per week and the additional 3 books that you have to read. The TAs are also tough graders on the already tough assignments. The directions for the assignments are not clear. The class is 3hrs & iclicker for attendance. I feel it was more the assignments and reading that made the class terrible.

He is a very good lecturer however, his material is quite uninteresting, nothing new from the norms of the school's SOC dept. His TAs' were tough graders on papers. Expect zero use of electronics from all classes now that my class violated his rules. He provides easy extra credit to make up for missing points.

some stuff is interesting, but lectures are really long and boring (3 hours) uses iclicker at the beginning and end of class. one of his quizzes was very ambiguous but he didnt give us the points even after acknowledging the questions were of that nature. read the reviews and wanted to give it a try but it wasn't worth it to me. tons of reading!

Professor Robinson is one of the most brilliant, articulate, and genuinely passionate professors I've had during my stay at UCSB. The long lectures are completely interesting, the material is structured in a way that makes it easy to follow. Read and the pop quizzes/essays are a breeze. You HAVE to take a class with Robinson before you leave.

3 short papers, 1 long final paper, 4 pop quizzes & plenty of e/c opportunities. He's 1 of the BEST professors I've ever had. His lectures are long, but he makes them super interesting. I learned so much during every lecture. He's amazing. Highhhlly recommend. Don't leave ucsb without taking a class with him!

You only meet 10 times. Not a bad class overall. I learned a lot about the true nature of many global inequalities. He says it's impossible to reach him by e-mail. About 5 short papers (under 4 pgs) including the last paper (6-8 pgs). Pop quiz generally every time there is nothing due but there are exceptions to this rule. Lots of xtra credit B+

Easy to listen to. Doesn't make the three hours drag by like some professors would. He loves to put his own pictures on the slides as well as write in spanish sometimes. Not a hard class but must read, no tests just papers

Great professor- by far my favorite at UCSB. He's very knowledgable, his lectures are long but he is so energetic that you won't fall asleep. He does take attendance several times each class but overall, his class is great.

Robinson is a solid professor. He is especially qualified to teach about Latin America given his experience there. His lectures are compelling and it is impossible for his knowledge to not rub off on others. It was a privilege to have been his student.
