Extremely helpful. The professor was not the most clear person in the world, but Matt was always extremely good at clarifying and helping me to understand.
He really tries to help all of his students and grades for the benefit of the students rather than curve. Handwriting is a bit tough to read sometimes, but he is a nice guy about it and just needs to be called out. Homework is tough, but not impossible.
Matt does a great job at teaching a difficult course. Was extremely helpful during office hours and gives lots of clues as to what will be on the exams and really takes into consideration what students suggest he changes in his class. Great professor and would recommend him to anyone taking any math class he's teaching.
Really does want to help and answers all questions, but a lot of the times, hard to understand.
Very kind, gave multiple grading scales for people to get the highest grade if they didn't do well on a test. And he's a babe.

He is extremely helpful and wants you to do well in the course. He was always eager to hear constructive criticism in order to take steps to make the course better also, which says a lot. Probably my best professor at UCSB and he is still a new professor and only going to get better!
Lectures are not mandatory. Midterms and final are not too hard.

Matt Porter is the coolest/cutest. He's so nice and willing to help. He explains everything clearly. And his math jokes are so adorable. I normally hate math but I loved this class because of him.

Really straightforward guy, knew what he was talking about. I always left section with a stronger understanding of the subject and a more calm and collected self because of it. Good with questions, I wasn't afraid to approach him, even if I didn't have a specific question.
Matt is by far the best math professor on campus. His lectures are clear and concise, and his tests follow his lecture examples and homework problems closely. Wish I had him for all my other math classes

I normally hate my math TAs at this school but Matt Porter was awesome and very helpful. Got an A in a tough math class and I believe Matt Porter was a significant reason for this
He explained some concepts clearly, but others were just difficult to understand even after explaining.
Matt is the man! I'm not sure if I learned more from his teaching or his beard... Probably the beard. Great teacher though!
Great TA. He can communicate math to students much more clearly than other math TAs. Was very helpful in office hours, and you can tell he enjoys teaching students.
