Not the most interesting if you're not a history buff, she gives one final and either two essays or one research paper. No midterm (was nice having that time). She will help as much as she can and is very interested in the topic she teachers. If you need help, go to office hour or talk to her.
Took this in a lecture hall, so there were pop quizzes on the reading, but they were super easy as long as you read. One Final and either two 5 page essays or one 10 page research paper. Lecture can be dry for non-history people and she gets excited when the topic is something she works on. Very helpful professor, go to office hours if you need
Very chill, nice, straightforward with information--but that's sort of a double-edged sword because the lectures can get fairly dry. That's to be expected of the subject though, right?
Lectures can put you to sleep. Her tangents stammering make the class unbearable at times, and her powerpoints have nothing but pictures on them. Hard to discern what is valuable information and what is not. Basically says, "know everything" for midterm and final. Essay prompts are extremely vague and confusing. TALK TO YOUR TA! Don't buy textbook
If you're not a history buff this is not an easy class to get by with. Grade is based on 2 small essays and a final. She says she gives pop quizzes but only gave one and didn't even count it toward our grades. I struggled keeping up because the lectures were all over the place and history isn't my major. Work hard and you can get a solid B.
Lectures can be boring, but at times really interesting. Can be really helpful if you ask for help, especially for essays. Overall, enjoyed the class.
She's a very boring lecturer her voice almost monotone I feel, I've fallen asleep in quite a few of lectures. It's quite hard to understand what she's talking about sometimes, she tends to go off topic. The midterm was very difficult in a sense because we had no idea what ID's were going to be in it. I wouldn't recommend it unless you like history.
You have 2 short papers to write which are your "midterm." She gives pop quizzes so you have to read, but only worry about the course reader. She lets you know what will be on the final, but it is still a lot of studying to do. Attendance is not mandatory, but if you do not go to lecture and take notes, you will not be able to do well on the final.
hard class. bad teacher. does no lecture on important stuff. papers are way hard to write and no directions given. must get and read the reader
Lansing is super entertaining and her class is awesome. However, her slides are often confusing. But if you study the terms on the lecture outline you'll get A's on the tests. The paper is really difficult because the T.A.'s aren't very lenient with grading them and the prompts are badly written. However, I definitely recommend this professor.
Lectures were not well organized, but everything from the midterm and final comes from lecture. Book is pretty much useless - dont buy. The paper prompts were somewhat ridiculous because the second is supposed to be a continuation of the first, but it had a different focus and therefore you needed to rewrite your thesis...
pretty good prof. no complaints. pretty clear. lectures a bit chaotic at times, but nothing major. make sure to go to lecture and take good notes and youll be fine. lotta reading that you have to do for section, but grade is basically just midterm, final and 2 essays. ta will decide grade, be on good terms with them
Pretty good professor, just go to lecture, do the readings and you're golden. The sections aren't worth it unless you need help with the essay.
I absolutely loved Prof Lansing and the class! She is an excellent lecturer and it very entertaining. You do not need the book AT ALL, the final/midterm/paper only require lecture notes and the reader. She goes a bit fast but if you type your notes you will be fine.
Pretty good class. Her lectures can be kinda confusing DON'T GET THE BOOK! Makes really corny jokes that r funny if ur not a tight ass. U have 2 go 2 lecture just 2 have somewhat of an idea of what's going 2b on the final/midterm. Paper prompt is poorly written so start early. Do the readings cause they don't like any any other source for the paper
I loved Prof. Lansing! Very passionate, engaging and easy to listen to. Jumps around a bit in lecture, but still super approachable, fun to talk to.DONT NEED THE TEXTBOOK at all. The paper is the most important part of the class. Overall, interesting stuff taught by a boss! She knows her stuff!
HIST 115X Great professor! She is really interested in the subject. He lectures jump around a bit but if you sit down an make a timeline it all makes sense. 2 essays, 1 final. She tells you exactly what she expects out of you. GO TO LECTURE it is so useful. I read none of the textbook and only some of the reader and got an A. Take this class.
This class is such an intriguing subject, but the way professor lansing delivers her lectures are quite incomprehensible. MANDATORY to go to class due to her sporadic style of jumping from one idea to another. History is my favorite subject and I disliked her class :(
I find her lecture style to be extremely confusing and disorganized. She just throws out random info that seems unrelated and gives little context to help you understand its significance. The worst history lecturer I've ever had
i took 115 X. Such a great teacher! 2 short papers and a final. Easy A if you go to class and take notes. She's also really funny and keeps things entertaining
I took her for Medieval Italy. Disorganized but very passionate and knowledgeable. Grade based off 1 essay, final, and attendance. I stressed over essay but she was very helpful when I went to her. I thought I was going to get a C (I missed 3 classes, I thought my essay sucked, and didn't feel too confident about final) but ended with A-.
Knows a ton on medieval history. 2 papers worth half you grade and 1 final. Thought the class was going to be hard, but she helps a lot. Taking notes is key and she lets you know what she wants on papers and finals in class. Go to it and you will be fine.
Lansing style is so hard to follow, She blitzes information at you and it is so hard to figure out what is important and what is not. Don't buy the text book, TA is your grade.
I did not like her teaching style at all. Not to be mean, but it sounded like she was giving a newscast or something, her voice would go up and down and up and down. Also her tests were horrible,we were only tested on 5 terms for the final and midterm, which by the way, were not major themes or events. your grade depends on your TA
