I was excited to finally take a course with Keller after hearing so many awesome things about him, and let me just say he did not let me down! He is the sweetest professor I have had over the past four years. His classes are relatively easy if you keep up with reading and lectures. He is so easy to talk to and always eager to help outside of class!
Keller is one of the sweetest professors ever, its like you get taught by ur grandpa.Hes very funny and his lectures are entertaining. Read his textbook, everything he tests you on comes from there and the practice tests. Dedicate time to find the answers to practice tests ahead of time. Do well in the first 3 midterms and the final is optional.
Easy A IF YOU DO THE PRACTICE EXAM QUESTIONS, beware they take forever to find and you can't be sure that you have the right answer. test questions are very subjective and you must know what KELLER wants you to know. Also, the paper was ridiculous. no instructions were given until a week before it was due. He is a really funny and nice guy though
3 midterms 1 final, drops the lowest test score. anyone who said this is an easy A is mistaken, the amount of reading is insane and even if you don't do it and try to find the answers to the practice questions (which is most of the midterms anyway), it takes forever. a lot of the questions are worded really confusingly too. funny/nice guy in class.
Keller's Rivers class is insane!!! He makes you sign a contract the first day of class signing away your soul, social life and anything else of significance in your life.... People don't take this class by choice only if its a required class :(
This was the most demanding class that I have ever taken at UCSB. Keller required us to do 3 projects (7 pages writing + figures, data, charts), 1 midterm, and final with 3 essay questions and 1 take-home essay question. He's not very helpful when it comes to answering your questions.
Keller has a great sense of humor and a nice personality. He gives 3 midterms, one paper, and a final. His class is RIDICUlOUSLY easy. I got a B without reading or going to lecture. It is important to study his sample questions because 75% (or more) of the test will be those questions.
Overgeneralizes but good overall class. Has his own opinions but is ok with people that differ. Overgeneralized environmental science.
I agree that he kinda generalizes. He makes a lot of "absolute" claims, and the tests aren't as clear as they could be. On the other hand, he is a very friendly and enthusiastic guy, he does crack a lot of jokes, and I got an A+ so I can't complain too much. Oh, and he drops the lowest test score, and that includes the final.
I loved Keller! i struggled w/ his midterms even though i went to every class... i went in to his office hours and he was really helpful and therefor i did well on his final... just go to class and focus more on his lectures than the books! overall keller is a nice guy and a good teacher!
Generalizes/oversimplifies concepts. Contributes to the "doom/gloom" of important environmental issues. Syntax and grammar in lectures and on tests is poor. Essay has no clear prompt. If you're not an ES major, and you want to take 1-3 for GE reqs, take 1 or 3. The only reading he requires is a textbook HE wrote--red flag.
His lectures were usually boring, but he told corny jokes to keep the class entertained. The paper was tedious but simple. I found the tests to be much harder than I thought they would be.
Ed Keller is a really funny old man who knows what he is talking about. The course is interesting, but he shares this course with Manalis, so I think Ed's part is more interesting. Highly recommend, if you study a little bit, easy class.
This is a really good class. It will enlighten you. You will be opened up to a completely different world. The tests are tricky with "all of the above" and "none of the above" options all over the place, but it's still a very good class. Go to lecture! Don't skimp out because he's entertaining and very helpful.
He does the first half of the class and then Manalis starts after the midterm. Keller's lectures were very interesting. The tests are multiple choice but still pretty tricky but everything comes from the book. The paper was very easy because he gives you paragraph by paragraph what you should talk about. Posts lecture slides online. Very nice guy.
I really liked Keller. Although lectures were a bit dry at times, the material is super interesting. Theres a fairly long environmental analysis paper, but its really not too bad. I recommend this class for sure
pretty easy; there's a long paper, but it wasn't too bad. lecture slides are online and material is fairly basic. the book is a waste of money - i never opened it and still got a B+.
get the book, he wrote it, it's important. great prof. ! the paper's hard, but the class is fun and interesting
Liked his class A LOT! Professor Keller is a really funny guy and because he wrote the textbook, everything, and I mean everything is straight from it! I like the guy, he cares and all around very good class.
Keller is so, so nice. His jokes make you smile and his laugh is contagious. He makes the information really easy to understand, and the power points are really helpful, especially since they're online too in case you need to refer back. He's great! Great class!
Keller is the cutest professor that did ever exist on planet earth! You just want to pinch his cheeks and hug him! His jokes are so cute and funny!
He is very passionate about the subject matter. as long as you go to class and section you'll do fine on the tests.
Keller is really cool. He is a nice guy who is very enthusiastic about the subject. What is nice about his class is that on the tests you are only responsible for the material that he covers in lecture. Also, his lectures are posted online. I found the term paper challennging at first but I ended up getting an "A" on it. The class is good overall.
sooo this class was kinda boring... i ended up leaving more than a few times... and sometimes not showing up. the information was rather interesting but he thought he was funnier than he really was. it wasn't that difficult though, on the upside and there have definitely been worse courses. Overall, it was just ok.
