For everyone who rates this Professor horribly, I feel sorry for you because you missed a chance at knowing a wonderful woman. She's one of the very few professors who are passionate and caring. She might seem mean in class, but she is a gem. Office hours are the best time to know her better.

took this class fall quarter of fresh year and it turned me off to any form of religious studies! the lectures were useless ramblings of how native ams were persecuted and i would of never attended but my TA caught on and took attendance which was BS because the other TA didn't... a useless class, didn't read, wrote fluff essays, learned NOTHING!

DoNOT go to lecture, has nothing to do with the papers. There are 2 papers:get the prompts, meet with your TA,go to section,&you will do MORE than fine.I recommend this class bc it fufills your ethnic, writing&area d requirements. All you really have to do is 1 hr a week for section and write 2 papers.EASY,but sad i didnt learn anything interesting

Going to lecture has NOTHING to do with your grade, gets repetitive/no structure. Grade's mostly from your TA grading 2 papers that VARY in difficulty depending on the prompt TA chooses. Waterlily was a joy to read (the rest are boring). The texts are really the only place you learn much, & they're optional when it comes to your grade, save your $

Religious Studies 14 - Native American Religion. This class was, essentially, not about religion at all. Talamantez just lectures about her life and how superior Native Americans are. I did not read one book - the class is just two papers, no tests. Easy A or B if you do your papers and put a bit of time into them.

LISTEN to me and listen good. You learn nothing. She comes in the class with an inflated head full of ego, and by the end you are choking on her BS that has filled the room. And forget about it being an easy class, she has nothing to do with it. 100% of the grade is by the TAs. One, which will KILL You. Dont expect an A. 50% got a C on the papers

Dr. Talamantez is not only an excellent example of a professor, but an excellent example of a woman. She is a valuable resource to her department as well as to our university. I highly recommend any of her classes.

this class was a joke. the lectures had very little to do with the topic of the course (native american religion), but instead were about her life and her opinions of the colonists that took the native americans' land centuries ago. this would have been fine if she offered some interesting analysis other than "white people are bad"; no such luck.

I don't know why everyone hates her! The readings were interesting and the class was a breeze. No final/midterm...just four 5-7 pg papers spaced throughout the quarter. Talamantez is like everyone's Grandmother. She tells personal stories during class and shares her wisdom. Plus, my TA was amazing, Andrea McComb.

First of all, the class was titled "women in religion", but that was not what it was about. she rambled on everyday about what happened to her in her life, and she constantly repeated herself. her grading is completely biased, to get an A you must constantly tell her how great she is, and regurgitate her opinions. senile and terrible.

I am completely aware of the horrible things that were done to Native Americans, but the class is called Native American Religions, and so that's what I wanted to learn about. She is really boring, but the final was a paper on anything you wanted so there was no need to go to lecture or do the reading after the midterm. Wiped out a ton of GEs.

Her grading policy sucks....She tells you that you'll be graded on a pass/fail system for journals. However, she changes her mind 3/4 into the quarter and gives journals grades. Her system does not permit students to improve and we have to settle for the grade she wants to give. If your a minority you'll get an A, if not you'll get what you get.

RUN AWAY!!!! Worst professor i have ever had. She's crazy, constantly contradicting herself, repeats herself daily. She is too old to be teaching. It was an easy class, but i could not stand her, and i know i wasnt the only one. Everyone i talked to thought she was crazy. So run, even if you need the class, dont do it. SAVE YOURSELF!!

The class is mildly interesting but she's on attack most of the time. It can be a little intimidating. The work has almost nothing to do with lecture, so make sure to do the reading.

Ines is a great professor & 4 those ppl who gave her a bad rating were obviously not ready 2 accept the truth of the racism that toke place agianst the Native indians. If u r not willing 2 accept this fact then dont take the class & not only is she apache but she is also Chicana. Therefore she is not discriminatory 2 ppl who r not Native indian

I had her for a freshman seminar and it was awesome cuz all you have to so is sit there while she tells you about her life/what you should do with yours. She's actually a very caring lady. Just don't fall asleep or else you will get shanked.

This was the worst class I have taken at UCSB, no question. She needs to leave her politics at home. She seems to hate men and everyone that is not native american. Denies benefits of modern medicine for God's sake. Her minion TA Julie was obnoxious at best. Everything you do is sacreligious. Even my relgious studies major girlfriend says stay away

Please please please get OUT of this class! The GE requirements are SO not worth it. She is the most hypocritical, and hateful professor I have ever had to listen to. Her lectures have nothing to do with the reading/tests/papers. It was just all around bad. I'm so sorry if you are stuck with her!

The class is very easy, but the lecture has nothing to do with the assignments and is virtually pointless. She was also mean.

She is teaching a damn freshman seminar, and she is giving us two damn books to read and a 10 page research paper, which we have to present in front of the class. It's a freshman seminar!!! It does not count for anything except you get one unit for it. I thought freshman seminars were supposed to

This class is the best I've ever taken. The lectures are just fascinating and Dr. T is a great speaker. Not only does she focus on just the class, but applies it to many other fascets of life, including env/soc awareness and she really gets us to think. On the downside assignments are very unclear.

Dumb Class but covers like 5 GE credits though. Don't have to go to lectures just sections. No miterm or test...just one 14 page paper final which you can bust out in 3 days. Got an A+ without doing****!
