The class consisted of two midterms which each had 5 questions and one final which had 10 questions. The grade pretty much is determined by how well you mastered the second midterm because that's what a majority of the final is. His lectures were hit and miss, but that's why there is CLAS and section.
Professor Stopple is just a nice professor. His lecture is organized. Sometimes he skipped 'easy' parts because he assumed that you knew those before you could enroll in these classes. His exams are hard not based on neither homework nor lecture. All you need is to study all the materials. He gave me good grades, love him!!
Doesn't feel as if he tries to "teach" you the material. The class times were horrible (who schedules this course at 8am for 3 consecutive quarters?!), and the tests were worse. There is no real way to prepare for the exams, since they're not based off of homework or lectures.
His goal doesn't seem to be to help students succeed but rather to make them hate math so much that they switch out of the BS major. Not encouraging, not approachable for help in office hours, and his tests aren't an accurate assessment as they introduce new concepts in the problems instead of asking about things we were taught. Avoid at all costs.
He may be a very smart may but he is an abysmal educator. For upper division classes, if you can afford to wait a year to take the class with another professor i would strongly suggest that you do so. His goal seems to make people fail out of his classes so that they have to switch from the B.S. major. Extremely stingy grader, doubt he has a rubric
Professor Stopple is very dedicated to his classes and extremely helpful when he knows you're interested. Always available in OH and curves his class knowing its a difficult course. Will NOT ever fail a student he knows has put in solid effort. Best math professor I've had at UCSB by far. Has true character, very friendly, out-going & approachable
Pretty easy, makes himself available. Aced all the exams without studying too hard.
N/A
He really wants to get to know his students and help them, so you have to put yourself out there, he gives extra points if he knows your name. The topics are somewhat challenging, he doesn't explain them too clearly, and he moves quickly, so you have to stay on top of it, and make sure you have other help too. His tests can be annoying though.
2 midterms (4 questions on each exam) and a final (8 questions) which makes a total of 16 questions. Stupid grading system where you have to get at least 8/16 problems correct perfectly, or else you won't pass the class. Won't give partial credit, avoid at all costs.
Pretty nice guy; he is very approachable and very helpful when you go to his office hours. The class was not overly difficult but his lectures are somewhat confusing. The homework was difficult but the tests are easy-ish if you know whats going on. Overall decent prof.
Although the class was easy, the grading was terrible. Does not award partial credit.
Professor Stopple is an excellent professor. His tests are very fair and he's always willing to help out during office hours. He is also very comfortable to talk to as well, not scary at all. I am speaking on behalf of not only myself but my friends who are also in my class as well. I HIGHLY recommend Stopple. Plus he's boss.
Stopple is a very good teacher. He is super nice and really wants his students to learn. The tests are pretty easy if you know whats going on. His lectures are kind of boring and hard to follow, but if you go to office hours and CLAS you should be fine.
Good Professor, homework was hard but he helped if you went to office hours. Lecture complemented the book, showing alternate proofs which help for understanding the concepts.
Great professor. He's very personable, helpful, funny, and kind of cute (in that nerdy math professor sort of way). The easiest way to pass his class is to go to his office hours as often as possible. He will do everything he can to help you understand and is more than happy to sit with you for hours to do so.
Professor Stopple was always willing to help me when I came to him with questions about homework or concepts. I would not call him easy, but I learned a lot and felt he was completely fair. He was also quite personable.
Hated his class... very arrogant and not organized. lectures for 20 min about random topics that he doesnt even test u on.
sometimes you wonder if the guy had even thought about math before the lecture. Desparately wants you to see things conceptually and this goal was reflected on his out of control midterm wherein he had the nerve to say explicitly in the directions of a problem that we never learned how to solve it.
One of the Best Math teacher i ever had, very straight forward, everything one the exam were from HW, but final was kinda tough, but he curves. he made me wana take another class of his. highly recommended for Math Majors
His lecture is not very organized. Go to CLAS, it is more helpful. The midterms are easy, but final is extremely hard. However, he curves the final, so it helps a lot. He is better than the other professors since you can at least understand him.

One of the best math teachers I've had. His presentation of the material is crystal clear, as are the notes he offers as a mini-textbook for class, and he's in his office all the time. Also a nice guy. His tests can be a bit tough, though.
Jeffrey Stopple is number one.
