He is truly a genius. I greatly admire his extensive knowledge and outstanding problem-solving abilities. His teaching is filled with passion, and he always uses vivid examples and clear explanations to help us understand abstract mathematical concepts. Grading is based on a curve, improvement and your overall understanding of the concept.

Stopped is good when it comes to lecturing, but grades unforgivably and will take off points even if your proof is correct. Do NOT fall behind on your work, and you'll be good since his midterms/final are just homework/textbook questions.

Don't take his math 117. It's awful. Doesn't give deatils in his notes. Exams extremely hard. Median score of midtern 1 was 6.5 out of 16. Ruined my GPA. The worst decision I have made is to take his 117.

He is smart and qualified. Tough grader. He would deduct points for writing too much, even if the correct answer is there. He doesn't give solutions to all exercises from the notes. There is much content in the notes and his exams did not cover all of the material. Overall, the pace of the class is manageable and homework load is relatively light.

There are 37 pages of typed notes on Canvas from day 1. The syllabus refers to them, and I referenced them in just about every lecture. And no one who got 10/12 on the first midterm dropped the class.

Professor Stopple's class is challenging, but if you really try, you will find it really helpful for later courses. He also curves a lot. He also gives very little homework.

I dropped the course not because I did bad, (I intentionally didn't review the exam since I planned to drop it, but I got a 10/12 on first midterm, median was 5/12) but the course is unenjoyable. His writing is unclear and every letter is upper case. He doesn't post lecture notes. The class is not hard but strict and unenjoyable, not recommand

His lecture notes are confusing and messy. There is too little homework for review purpose. He is also a harsh grader. His grading policy is absurd.

Professor Stopple is a great teacher and is super accessible outside of class. Lectures are SUPER quick though and you're scrambling to write down a super elaborate proof. He wants his students to succeed and genuinely cares, but therefore he is a tough grader and wants you to follow very specific proof structures.

Prof Stopple will give midterms that may replicate the homework, but his lectures are VERY FAST (like kachOw) and the min you try to process the info, he already has a board full of proofs to write down. He frequently reassures the class that the material is easy but this only makes struggling students feel worse. HW (35%), 3 midterms 1 final (15%)

Lectures are not helpful at all. He just writes based on the textbook. Hard exams. Difficult to communicate with. Tough person.

TBH, the structure of this course is terrible. His handwriting is also terrible. The lectures are kinda messy and it's even better to just read the textbook thoroughly. There's only one exercise hw after each lecture, which is not enough for practicing. Lectures are useless to some degrees. And he didn't even allow restroom during exam.

Jeffrey Stopple is a tremendous teacher! There is a lot of homework/busy-work, but he ultimately wants to show you the bigger picture of mathematics -- to understand it conceptually as opposed to just being good at number crunching. Make sure to do all the homework on web-assign, and save your notes from those homeworks.

Amazing professor, go to his claseeses go to his office hours. You only have yourself to blame if you don't do well. He makes you try. Gives your confidence. He believes in all of his students. A great professor. I've taken three classes from him

Super nice guy and very helpful. Requires students to go to office hours twice and if he knows your name, your grade depends on it. Topics presented well. Know how to do the problems he gives you before exams, the exact questions will be on the exam!! Really nice. Dry speech.

Only had him for math 4A, was recommended by a friend of mine. Really like him a lot! And VERY helpful during office hours, if you don't get the stuff in lecture, go to his office hours! And DEFINITELY DEFINITELY do recommended book problems, they will show up on your midterms and final (this is announced in class and on the syllabus)

One of the best teachers I've had at UCSB! He's a great teacher and is extremely helpful and caring if you go into his office hours andor ask questions. Definitely take with Stopple. The passfail system for tests is a little weird, but he is super clear and helpful about his tests.

Professor Stopple really cares about his students. He won't leave you hanging as long as you utilize office hours and your discussion section. He has a very specific grading system where you have to get at LEAST half of the TOTAL cumulative exam questions fully correct to pass the class, so you'll have to really study hard. Great professor overall!

The test is easy. And we can sometimes got a extra credit to replace the questions you got the lowest scores on the test. Prof Stopple is really helpful. He organize the class very well.

The way he grades tests is kind of weird. If you don't get a certain amount of questions full credit, well you fail. He's super nice tough.
