Walsh is legit. Discussion oriented class that made you think about pretty much everything you've learned in anthro and apply it to borderlands. A fun class. Probably useful if you don't present your class discussion in a monotone whisper.

I went to maybe 1/5 of the lectures and studied for the final for maybe 3 hours and managed to pull an A-. Very easy class. For the tests, review lecture notes, movie notes, and the key terms from the book and you shouldn't find the test too hard. I thought a lot of it was pretty intuitive.

Not a bad class at all. I would recommend it highly.

Strongly agree with the post below. The tests were so frustrating because they did not test you on actual anthropological concepts, but useless facts scattered throughout boring lectures and movies. Anthropology is interesting, but don't take this class.

Takes what should be said in about two minutes and stretches it into an hour long lecture. Easy material to understand, tests are somewhat difficult though as knowing concepts gets you a C, memorizing random facts about obscure anthropologists will get you an A.

His lectures would be more interesting if the lecture hall weren't so big and his voice weren't so dull. But he *does* know his topic, even though he'd prefer to tell you about his 'water shortage in Mexico' research than anything else. Reading the assigned books is a waste of time, but reading the textbook is pretty important.

I thought it was pretty interesting, he introduced a lot of concepts that were interesting to think about. I'm not interested in cultural anth really, but i did think it was somewhat interesting. The midterm and final were pretty easy and really short. both took 30 minutes tops. It's a good class to take for GEs

it's sometimes hard to hear what he says since it's such a big class. attendance isn't mandatory, just get the notes from someone and study them for the exams. notes are a bit vague though. interesting at first, got a little tedious towards the end of the quarter.

extremely boring class, the ltest questions come straight from the lectures AND the readings though. must read a textbook and two novels which are both boring and tedious. questions are very specific in the tests about certain people and case studies so make sure you memorize all the pointless details. didnt study or pay attention and still got a b

The class is pretty boring, save for his numerous voice cracks (there's a couple each class, and counting them was the most entertaining part of lecture). The midterm is easy, even if it's short. The material is really obvious, because it's taught for people who don't know ANYTHING about culture. Bottom line: easy but really boring.

This class will put you to sleep. SO BORING. I did not pay attention in class at all. Just take the notes and have it all memorized right before the midterm and final which are super easy. There is one paper that is 5 pages, but it is not bad at all. Easy class but VERY boring.

Relaxed chill teacher. Read the book and pay the slightest bit of attention in lecture and you'll do fine.

This professor is very unhelpful. He has boring lectures and his tests are only 30 multiple choice on over four chapters and a book. They do not test what you learn by any means and many questions are ambiguous. I would urge you not to take this class!

Professor Walsh himself is great! He's always avaliable, very approachable, and he KNOWS HIS MATERIAL and applies his actual fieldwork to your studies (just in case anthro majors wanted to know!). He tends to go on tangents sometimes, but it's definitely understandable. Easy class, wonderful teacher! Take his class!!!!!

such a weird grading scale that can really hurt overall grade

easy class and easy tests but SO BORING! you actually have to listen to the lectures because the power points do not make any sense without listening. tests are short and really easy if you study but sometimes random specific questions are on there that no one knows. pretty easy class but not fun at all

He mumbles and goes on various tangents in his lectures. Powerpoint slides are unclear and minimalistic in detail. The problem is that the tests are based on the trivial details in his tangents. Seems like he doesn't care about the class. Short tests, so a few wrong answers mean full letter grades.

Tests are really easy and lectures are sometimes boring, but not that bad. good class.

His tests are an absolute joke. He gives like 30 to 40 question mid terms and has very tough questions for such a tiny amount given. Yes alot of students were in the C range which is average but with such a low number of questions one more wrong on that test for many would have dropped probably a good 10 percent of the class into the D range.

Tests have obscure details and are worded poorly. The lectures are always boring.
