This class is intensely reading based, so don't get behind on your textbook reading. The only things that count for your grade are section attendance, a midterm, and a final, so it doesn't leave much room to mess up. Professor Ettenberg is a super funny guy and loves what he does, which makes lecture interesting!

I took Ettenberg for Psych 1 and he had a lot of material in his class with only one midterm and one final, meaning if you mess up in 1, it will be hard to recover. This is a weeder class so do not take as a GE!!

Professor Ettenberg is super nice and caring. His class is tough, but his lectures are genuinely interesting and he has a great attitude about teaching. The few times I asked him questions after lecture, he was always nice and funny. However, start reading right away. Tests are based on book and lectures, and its a lot of reading. He's great tho!

Prof Ettenberg is such an enjoyable person. He has a great sense of humor and is genuinely kind, I looked forward to his lectures every week. Be sure to read the textbook for this course. I found the reading/studying fairly easy because I enjoy learning about psych. My favorite class & professor so far!!! Sad that the course is over.

AMAZING LECTURER!! But the exams are HARD. The average for midterm is around 65% BEFORE curve.

Ettenberg is an awesome lecturer, but please only take PSY1 if you absolutely need to take it, I learned this the hard way. Lectures were not mandatory and he only goes over the main topics which isn't helpful because the tests rely heavily on the textbook. You should take a different class though, unless you are super interested or passionate.

Very good lecturer. The grading scale is based on how the class does as a whole. You definitely have to study a lot if you want a high grade. You get the grade by beating the rest of your class. Ettenberg made PSY1 very enjoyable and taught well though. Definitely would recommend him.

This was a challenging course, but Prof Ettenberg was fantastic! His lectures were incredibly engaging and it's clear that he's VERY qualified to teach the course. He's very gentle and is always open to helping students. He has also has a great sense of humor. The actual material was difficult and there's a ton of reading, so do not procrastinate.

Ettenburg is by far one of my favorite UCSB profs. He makes learning the material fun and easy. There is a lot of reading, so I recommend sitting down at the beginning of the quarter and planning the weekly readings. Test questions come directly from textbook and lecture, and he never tries to trick you. Put in the effort and it will pay off!

Really great professor makes his lectures interesting and gives several examples that make learning terms easy. Tests have lots of questions from lecture. LOTS OF READING. You go through 14 chapters in the quarter. Reading is crucial for doing well on exams. Get online inquizitive access if you can for the textbook it helps a lot!

an amazing professor. he makes lectures so enjoyable and has a real passion for this subject. psy 1 is a lot of info and is definitely not an easy A. section attendance is mandatory. don't wait till the last sec to do your experiments. info from the book that he doesn't cover in lecture pops up on tests. there is only a midterm and final.

Amazing lecturer! BUT his exams are hardly based on lectures. You'll have to really focus on reading the book and he doesn't tell what to focus on when reading so you'll have to read the ENTIRE book. If you think you can get by without reading, you're wrong.

He is definitely excellent at teaching. his lecture is well structured and also use a lot short video and examples to help us understanding the concepts. HOWEVER, the subject itself is just hard. tons of things to remember. be sure you come to class otherwise, you won't pass.

Definitely take Psy 1 with him! So accommodating and helpful, I couldnt take the midterm due to a personal conflict, so i told him beforehand and he let me take it beforehand! Super approachable and very funny guy that keeps his lectures interesting! An absolute must!

Ettenberg is awesome!! He's laid back, caring, and gets information across in a clear and accessible way. I went to his office hours once, and he was super nice and incredibly patient. You can tell that he already knows everything you ask him about, but he treats you and every question you ask as valuable and important.

Super great guy, really wants you to learn the subject. He makes things very clear and easier to understand. MUST do all the reading and MUST attend lecture/section. He mentions things in lectures/sections that are not on the slide but will be on the test!!! The only grades are the midterm, attendance and final. Graded on bell curve.

Ettenberg is a really good professor. He is very organized in his lectures and tries hard to make things comprehendible to students. A plus is that he is very funny so I look forward to going to his lectures. The only problem with the class is that you only have two grades: the midterm and the final.

Dr. Ettenberg is a unbelievable lecturer. His explanations were clear, and his examples were often funny or thought-provoking. He expects a tremendous effort from his class with a dense textbook and all of his lecture material being fair game for exams. (There will be a big curve)

He's a good lecturer, but his goal is to prevent seniors from graduating. Only 2 exams; 50% each and very very difficult. 60% of the class switched to P/NP after the midterm. Textbook is the driest, most complex thing I've ever read. It's as if the authors don't want you to learn the material. Don't take this class if you don't have to.

I LOVED this professor. He's a little funny old dude who is a wonderful lecturer and an absolute gem. I always looked forward to going to lecture. I highly recommend that you attend but if you don't, he does post the slides online. There is a lot of reading to do and, be warned, your grade is based on participation, a midterm, and final ONLY.
