This class is intensely reading based, so don't get behind on your textbook reading. The only things that count for your grade are section attendance, a midterm, and a final, so it doesn't leave much room to mess up. Professor Ettenberg is a super funny guy and loves what he does, which makes lecture interesting!

I took Ettenberg for Psych 1 and he had a lot of material in his class with only one midterm and one final, meaning if you mess up in 1, it will be hard to recover. This is a weeder class so do not take as a GE!!

Professor Ettenberg is super nice and caring. His class is tough, but his lectures are genuinely interesting and he has a great attitude about teaching. The few times I asked him questions after lecture, he was always nice and funny. However, start reading right away. Tests are based on book and lectures, and its a lot of reading. He's great tho!

Prof Ettenberg is such an enjoyable person. He has a great sense of humor and is genuinely kind, I looked forward to his lectures every week. Be sure to read the textbook for this course. I found the reading/studying fairly easy because I enjoy learning about psych. My favorite class & professor so far!!! Sad that the course is over.

AMAZING LECTURER!! But the exams are HARD. The average for midterm is around 65% BEFORE curve.

Ettenberg is an awesome lecturer, but please only take PSY1 if you absolutely need to take it, I learned this the hard way. Lectures were not mandatory and he only goes over the main topics which isn't helpful because the tests rely heavily on the textbook. You should take a different class though, unless you are super interested or passionate.

Very good lecturer. The grading scale is based on how the class does as a whole. You definitely have to study a lot if you want a high grade. You get the grade by beating the rest of your class. Ettenberg made PSY1 very enjoyable and taught well though. Definitely would recommend him.

This was a challenging course, but Prof Ettenberg was fantastic! His lectures were incredibly engaging and it's clear that he's VERY qualified to teach the course. He's very gentle and is always open to helping students. He has also has a great sense of humor. The actual material was difficult and there's a ton of reading, so do not procrastinate.

Ettenburg is by far one of my favorite UCSB profs. He makes learning the material fun and easy. There is a lot of reading, so I recommend sitting down at the beginning of the quarter and planning the weekly readings. Test questions come directly from textbook and lecture, and he never tries to trick you. Put in the effort and it will pay off!

Really great professor makes his lectures interesting and gives several examples that make learning terms easy. Tests have lots of questions from lecture. LOTS OF READING. You go through 14 chapters in the quarter. Reading is crucial for doing well on exams. Get online inquizitive access if you can for the textbook it helps a lot!

an amazing professor. he makes lectures so enjoyable and has a real passion for this subject. psy 1 is a lot of info and is definitely not an easy A. section attendance is mandatory. don't wait till the last sec to do your experiments. info from the book that he doesn't cover in lecture pops up on tests. there is only a midterm and final.
