By far the worst professor at ucsb. Lectures are boring and he goes too fast. No one ever attended lecture so he gave extra cred to those who did. Failed half of the class, no exaggeration, out of spite. Material is hard to begin with, but Mack made it worse. Some people are not meant to teach, certainly NOT Mack.
Worst prof ever. Unclear, made it harder than necessary. He jsut wanted you to know he was smart and you were not. I took the class with another professor and got an A- with the same work put in. The second time I took the class, I didn't even recognize the material because it was presented in a useful way. Drop the class with Galloway.
The class was easy in CLAS (Binh is the BEST CLAS tutor ever). But it was horrible in class. Lecture was always empty, he never really explained anything clearly and he actually snuck in stuff not covered in class for the final.

If anyone important from the PSTAT department (Prof Wang, Prof Feldman, etc.) ever reads this, please listen to this honor student's plea: SEND GALLOWAY BACK TO FLORIDA (or whatever cesspool he was spawned from)! I've talked to other Statistics professors and my statistics TAs and they refuse to contradict me when I speak ill of him. UCSB's plague.
why are we paying for this total loser to "lecture" to an empty room 3 times a week? seriously WORST professor at UCSB. Incredibly unreceptive- took me weeks to correct a clerical error in my grade because he simply didn't want to have to deal with it - AVOID HIM LIKE THE PLAGUE
power points are straight forward. explanations are pretty clear. not too much homework. tests come from practice tests. pretty friendly.
Not too bad. Would have done alot better if I did the homework, since many of the quizzes and tests almost mirror the topics covered in the homework. Lectures are kind of boring, but important to go to because some of the examples used are found in the homework and tests. Good professor, nice person.
Professor was very helpful and extremely knowledgeable on the subjects presented throughout the course. As long as you GO TO OFFICE HOURS IF ANY TOPICS ARE UNCLEAR and COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THE HOMEWORK this class is entirely manageable. So, make sure you DO THE HOMEWORK!
Worst professor ever. He explained concepts in a manner that made it EXTREMELY difficult to understand. I learned more from videos off Youtube than I did from this prof. Avoid if possible!
He did not post the hw solutions until AFTER the weekly quiz/assig because he said that's how u learn, by struggling (ya right). He gave us 2 days to study for the final because he didn't post the hw solutions until then. No CLAS offered, TA's unhelpful, Lecture=Boring, teaches from overhead&goes too fast, makes things far moreComplex.HORRIDTEACHER

Lectures are useless to attend. Mack presents the material in a much more complicated manner than necessary. The discussion sections were very unhelpful because the weekly in-section assignments and quizzes left almost no time to ask questions for help. The tests weren't extremely difficult if you can do the hw problems he assigns.
Horrible professor. Lectures are from power point slides that he rushes though too fast to take decent notes. Averages on the two midterms were 50% and 40% respectively. Quizzes or worksheets that are given every discussion make it so the TA's can't teach you much either. He will single handedly ruin your quarter.
terrible professor. ive taken many probability courses before and this was by FAR the hardest. he makes things way more complicated than they should be. the class average on our second exam was a 40%. the whole class is basically failiing.
AVOID HIM AT ANY COST! Boring, doesn't make any sense, makes the material way more complicated than it should be. I'm wondering how he's still teaching.
GO TO CLAS AND WILL BE THE EASIEST CLASS AT UCSB. I went to lecture the first day, and once for every 4 exams. I got a horrible TA and I cannot imagine passing without CLAS. Bin Pham was the best tutor. Just practice the problems in the book and you'll be fine! I heard lecture was unbelievably boring as well.
Go to CLAS!! He is very monotone, and makes easy concepts complicated. Do the practice tests a a couple days before each exam for practice, and use the book and cdrom to learn from, since lecture is pointless.

Make sure you do the PRACTICE TEST he posts the week of the midterm and you'll do fine. 20% for 4 midterms, 20% section, NO FINAL (YAY!), noncumulative! Very specific with using the correct words he wants you to use in test. A+!

where do i start... ok the class was at 1pm but it felt feel like it's at 8am because lecture puts u to sleep so come prepared with anything to keep u awake if u plan on goin to lecture, which i must say isn't necessary. in fact u shouldn't even go because it only confuses u. Go to CLAS and section and you'll do fine seriously.
true, class wasn't very interesting, but c'mon people. it's stats. he is helpful if you seek him out. this class was super easy, i failed the second of four tests because i didn't study but ended up with an A- anyway. the book & cd really help. and as for TAs: julie shan is awful, i'm not quite sure how she is head TA...
Galloway is drab and makes concepts much more confusing than they actually are. If you go to CLAS and take Binh Pham, you will get an A in the class with no problem. Galloway is easy to understand if you already have prior knowledge of stats, otherwise he is VERY confusing. He is a nice guy, just like, a very boring version of Eric Foreman.
he is really boring.. no need to go to class just read the book extremely helpful.. take CLAS binh is super helpful.. really easy class if you dont fall behind =D
