I took her class at Ventura College and I think I have learned more in her class than most of the classes I have took. The material is tough but for a first-time Anthropology class, it is fascinating and really interesting! She clearly loves teaching and knows a lot!

This class was amazing and inspiring. It opened up a whole new world for me. Great lectures, great films, interesting readings. I highly recommend it. Go through the study questions and you will have no problem on the exams. My favorite class.

If you want to know about different cultures, take this class. Great lectures, films, interesting readings. Written exams are taken straight from study questions. Easy if you take notes in class and go through the questions each week. DO NOT attempt to cram. You can tell that she is very knowledgeable, loves teaching and cares about students.

I loved this class. Taber is a fantastic professor, very knowledgeable, and really cares about students. Her lectures are amazing and give you so much to talk about. 3 exams and a fun project. Just do the study questions and get help when needed and you will have no problem getting an A. But be aware that she expects you do the work.

Worst professor ever! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. She reads off of a piece of paper everyday, super rude when you ask a question. She comes in 30 minuets early on test days and if you ask her a question off the study guide she will yell at you and make you feel like crap. She is really hard to follow and doesn't help me hold interest in this subject.

Incredible and inspiring professor. I loved her class. Not a lot of homework but there are optional extra credit essays which were worth the effort. Study and pay attention to lectures and film and you will get a lot from this class.

This class was amazing. Summer session is intense, especially with a lot of reading. But readings are interesting, and Taber is a wonderful teacher! Great lectures, interesting films. She knows the subject well, and gets students involved. I came away with a with a whole new perspective on gender. I would take anything this professor teaches.

Great teacher! loves what she does and has a real passion for it. Class is easy if you do everything she asks at the beginning. I am not usually a good student but if you work hard and go to every lecture with notes ready, you are sure to pass. If you decide to skip classes, well good luck.

I showed up for class during the first 2 moths and I thought that I was ready for the fist exam... boy was I wrong. I realized that a lot of the questions from the study guide was on the test so I thought If she's not taking attendance why bother showing up to class, I'll just do the study guides. DON'T DO THAT! Show up for class and read the book.

Professor Taber is amazing. I learned so much in class, everything I learned I will apply it to my own world views. This course does require work so I recommend that people pay attention to the lectures, print the slides (which are the PowerPoint notes) and have a study buddy. She is kind, insightful and a great conversationalist.

Dr. Taber is a great professor. She expects you to be professional, she's very passionate, and I found the subject matter interesting. Definitely not an easy A; there's an ethnography and four exams, I think. As long as you read, pay attention, and do the study questions, you'll be fine.

Great teacher. Bases her exams directly from the study questions so do the study questions and you should be fine for the exams. Lots of the questions come from the lectures and powerpoints so you need to be in class a lot to keep up with the work.

I loved this class. A lot of work, but if you are up for the challenge it is easy to get a good grade and you will learn a ton. Exam questions are taken straight from the study questions provided each week, so no surprises. She teaches it like a university course. If you do well in this class, you will be well-prepared when you transfer.

Make no mistake...this class is hard but if you work your tail off and are interested in the subject this course is extremely rewarding if you do well. Test is mixture of very short answer (15 ?'s), short answer (10 ?'s) and long answer (4 or 5). Study guide is crystal clear. Taber knows her stuff. Slackers beware.

I thought cultural anthropology would be interesting, and I still think the subject can be very interesting, just not when it's taught by Taber. She was incredibly boring and a poor teacher. There was far too much work, and she didn't make an effort to make it interesting. I still received an A, but I worked way too hard for that grade.

Pretty hard class. Taber isn't the nicest person and just seems to read off of the slides that she posts on her website the day before. SO much work and reading. I wouldn't recommend this class if you are just taking it to fulfill a requirement but if you are majoring in anth, then go for it. She seems very passionate in what she does.

Awesome professor. If you are a serious student, you will love this class. More reading than many other courses, but very interesting and well worth the effort. Dr.Taber challenges you to think critically about what you think you know. You will come away with a lot of knowledge and a whole new perspective.

This was the best class I have taken. Dr. Taber is very professional and is serious about teaching her students. Yes we have readings, but they are all very intersting. If you enjoy culture you wont have a problem in this class. she knows her material. She has a PH.D, She cares, she's sincere, honest, and well prepared to teach her students.

Great professor! Helpful, passionate, funny, smart, really cares about students. A bit of reading, but interesting & not unreasonable. Lecture slides are available the day before each class, & if you do the reading, take notes in class, & go through the study questions week by week you will do fine. She also offers extra credit. Awesome class.

You have to be ready for so much reading and her study guides will eventually seem endless. She adds more and more work every week... Not the best Professor.

Great teacher! You can tell she is very passionate about what she's teaching, which makes the class even better. Very interesting material, but as others said there is a lot of reading. However, if you fill out the study guide (which she encourages you work on with classmates) and put some time into going over it a few times you can easily get an A

She is an amazing professor but the class is really hard. There is a ridiculous amount of reading you need to keep up with and she gives you super detailed study questions for the midterm and final. She does offer extra credit, which is really easy. Overall it is a great class but don't take it if you are not willing to work hard.

Wow!One of the best professors at UCSB. She is a credit to her discipline and to teaching. She lectures well. Her expectations are clear. It is a lot of reading but in the end if you do it, you do well. She is stern but kind hearted. I would take ANYTHING she ever teaches. You can tell her loves her subject and her passion is contagious. Loved her!

This class really is not that difficult if you do the study guide. Yes, it's long and tedious but the study guide is literally the test. Do the work and it's and easy A. Plus, there are multiple opportunities for extra credit.
