I have taken every course this professor has taught at UCSB - except 120 which has not been taught in the last 6 years. I loved every class and probably learned more than in almost any others. Interesting, challenging, makes you think. Never once saw a National Geog film.

Loved this class. Taber is smart, enthusiastic, funny, and a fair grader. Readings can be challenging, but lectures help. Great films. Easy if you do the work.

Her class is So.incredibly.boring. The readings suck, the movies are completely boring(and at the price we pay for tuition are you effing kidding me playing national geographic movies!!!), and the tests are insanely hard. Way too much work for the class. I also found the way she approached cultural anthropology as clueless and slightly offensive.

I signed up for this class not knowing exactly what to expect. Theory can be intimidating, but I wound up loving this class. Probably the best I've ever taken. The class is run as a seminar with weekly quizzes and term paper, no midterm or final. Lots of in-class discussion. Taber makes learning social theory fun!

Not the easiest course you will take, but if you really want to learn something, Taber is awesome. Lots of reading, essay exams and term paper. All exam questions posted as study guides week by week. If you pay attention in lecture and do the reading and study questions, you will have no problem.

Extremely interesting class and Taber is an awesome teacher! She will show up to class to answer your questions and help you study before tests. She gives out questions that will be on the exam every week so you have plenty of time to study before a test. She gave two tests, and lots of opportunities for extra credit.Fun movies, interesting reading!

A fair amount of reading, but interesting and not too difficult. Keep up with the study questions week by week and take good notes, and you will be fine. Lectures and slides clear, organized and interesting. Good films. Extra credit is available, and grading is fair. But be prepared to write.

My experience was in every way 180 degrees opposite of the 4 negative ones someone posted below. Great class - probably the best I've taken. A challenge, yes. If you're a good student you'll love this prof & learn a lot. If you want an easy class, don't take it. Since anyone can post as many ratings as they want, it is not a useful guide.

DON'T TAKE HER, you will do bad in your other classes, and fail hers too. She is the worst professor ever, I did not learn anything because she just wants you to memorize the material and believe me there is a lot to memorize!!!!!

She was a horrible professor. Went to all the lectures but it is useless all she does is read off a piece of paper which have to do with the readings!! TOO MUCH READING!! She in not helpful at all, makes students feel stupid for asking questions. TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD! Study questions consits of 20+ a week within those there are another five ?'s

WORST TEACHER I have ever taken. She sooo MEAN and RUDE. Her reading was stupid and everything we asked a questions in class she would try and make everyone feel stupid. She thinks she knows it all. She likes to hear herself talk so when you ask her a question she doesnt give you a straigh foward answer. NEVER TAKE HER.

This class has too much reading, too much redundant reading. She condescending and not helpful to students, she acts very superior. She won't give straight forward questions and is very confusing, she likes to hear herself talk. DO NOT TAKE HER.

This class was really interesting and challenging. You definitely have to attend each lecture and do most of the reading. I did maybe 70% of the reading, attended each class and got an A. She's a good professor with a good sense of humor.

took it during summer I know that its quicker & info is packed in but give me a break. sry but she is boring, mundane, & its hard to pay attention. All she does is stand in front & read off a paper. there is so much to write & know & she expects u to know it all. the tests r pretty hard, precise, & detailed. I dont recommend at all!!

Taber generalizes too much about Indian culture. I'm not some crazy nationalist who needs to see my culture through rose-tinted glasses, but I do require that a professor be ethical in framing any given scenario. She often borderlined on Orientalism. I sat in class rolling my eyes most of the time. The quality of the readings were mixed too.

This is NOT AN EASY class. I hugely underestimated the study questions. They are VERY DETAIL oriented. Of course I did not do all the reading GET REAL, but I attended every lecture and I still learned a lot. If I have not scared you take it I enjoyed the class. The class is graded on a GENEROUS CURVE and she offers EXTRA CREDIT (DO ITTT! its easy)

She is insane! I felt like I had no time to focus on any other classes. I took the class p/n and hardly passed. If you are a procrastinator DO NOT take this class. The study questions consist of about 20/week that require long answers. Not worth it!!!!

At first I was scared this class was going to be impossible. She tried to scare us, but only in order to keep the dedicated students. She really values what the students have say, and makes the difficult material clear.

Interesting class. Theres a lot of reading but she goes over them in class and tells you what you need to know. Gives study guide for both midterm and final-each worth 50%. offers extra credit as well.

I am an anthro major with a 4.0. i wouldn't reccommend this professor to anyone. the reader is 500 pages, the class is boring, and there is an insane amount of work. She gives study questions ahead of time but there are about 120 mulit-part, specific questions to answer (paraphraphs!) I will never take Taber again for any class.
