Very organized lectures. Discussion is key so make sure to do the readings.
Professor Adams is a wonderful ARTHI professor. Her lectures are very engaging and she reviewed with us exactly what would be on the midterms and exams. Reading weekly articles are required, but nothing was overly dense or boring. We went over each article in class. Professor Adams goes out of her way to know you individually and help you succeed!
This class was lecture heavy, but she is very clear in what she wants. Not an easy GE, but not too difficult and she obviously cares about what she is teaching. If you want to learn, and get writing credit without too much stress, take this class. Go to section, too.
Very interesting, but heavy lectures. Clear direction for all essays and tests. Important to study flash cards with info outside of class. Requires a decent amount of study time and writing the 2 essays. Midterm and final were combo of long and short essays. Get flash cards to study! Very kind woman who is very passionate. Interesting class.
If you watch all the lectures and go to your section, you'll be fine. Everything on the exams is covered in lectures. For essays, you just need to analyze paintings. Including sections, I spent usually abt 34 hours a week on this class, which is fine considering this is only a 4-unit class - tho I do wish there're fewer lectures.
Professor Adams is not a great public speaker and considered majority of course content is from lectures this makes everything so much harder for students. She gave too many instructions for our paper assignment (almost 10 pages of instruction for a 3 page essay!) Assignments were hard and I dont like art history to begin with. Not good.
Lectures are entertaining. The group projects during COVID proved to be difficult. She isnt the warmest and often words questions on the quizzes that make it seem like a trick question. If you read and do well on quizzes and group work the A isnt hard to get.
The class was overall doable. The material was interesting, but you had to be familiar with information on basically every page of the reader. The midterm and final were entirely based on the readings and their arguments. But she pretty thoroughly reviewed the readings in lectures, which, by the way, went by quickly because of constant note-taking.
awesome
I wasn't particularly interested in Dutch Art but the class made me a believer. She wants her students to succeed and even said that grades don't matter, its what you learn. Two caveats: lots of reading, and discussion. Also she wasn't easily available, needed to make an appointment to see her at office hours. (not a fan of that policy)
She is great. Wants everybody to succeed and will match your midterm grade to your final grade (if you do better on the final, which helped my grade!). She is passionate and knowledgeable, and her lectures are SO easy to take notes on. She'll even tell you what images you need to know. I'm a big fan of Dutch Art now, and am signed up for her 111C!
Her lectures are over simplified while the readings are very in depth and detailed. Lectures were somewhat interesting but the exams were completely directed towards the reading. She makes the class seem a lot easier than it actually is.
Took the 186G Art History Class (Seminar on Rembrandt). there were weekly readings required and lots of new material (for me), and instead of reciting answers we were asked to analyze on our own. It was hard but very rewarding.
Took 111B and C with her. Super awesome! Love her! Go to class and take notes, and you'll be fine. There's also a reader which is important for assignments, but overall love her and her Dutch art classes! Take them!
GREAT professor! She really knows her stuff. A Dutch art expert. If you like art history, you'll find this class rewarding. If not, you might be bored. For this smaller sized class try to participate as much as possible, it'll help your grade. Also, instead of writing a paper we had a debate. Although challenging at times, AWESOME class
She was awful!! Did not know what she was talking about, and pointed out the most obvious things in lecture. I have never fell asleep so many times in a lecture. Save yourself GE requirement and take MUS 15 instead :)
Great course. She really makes sure you understand the material that will be tested, and tells you which articles to focus on for studying. The debate at the end of class isn't a huge deal, so don't freak out. A lot of people were nervous, but it all works out since it isn't a lot of your grade. I also found the material really interesting, fun.
Very very boring. Lecture was dull and most of her points seemed like stretches. Tests are not that bad, but you are expected to know the EXACT Title, Artist, and Date of dozens of works of art, on top of having to evaluate and compare the different works. Take it if you must, but proceed with caution
This is one of the easier Art History courses. Not TOO many pictures to memorize, compared to the others. You do have to remember the right decade for the work of art, but it makes sense, because the course is only covering a couple hundred years. Decent midterms and final, not too easy but not too hard. I liked the class and learned a lot.
Adams is dull to say the least; her voice in lecture is monatonous and the class is taught more like a history class. The expectations are INSANE! For the final we were told to remember approx 60 images with artist, title, and year (WITHIN +/- 5 YEARS). The class was overall a HUGE waste of my time and many other ge's will satisfy the requirement!
Reader was absolutely and completely useless. All you have to do is mooch off of your sections for what is in the reader, and that is hardly on the final or the midterm. Go to every single lecture, Adams goes through every detail for you to get an A in the course! If you pay attention and keep up with the course, getting an A will be no problem!
Great Prof!. easy.
Professor Adams is simply not the best teacher. Considering my interest in the art pieces of the Renaissance, her lectures were dull and irrelevant. The class itself is not too difficult. Expect to be frustrated with her pronunciations and unsatisfied with the course. I would avoid the class if possible. She is really arrogant too, bad vibes
This professor cannot pronounce half the things she is trying to say. She lectures on history, not art. Compared with other professors, she gave us a 5 year margin of error on our midterms whereas the previous professors allowed a 50 year error. She expects you to know things that she never covers in lecture. Don't take this class.
