Professor Mann is one of my favorite professors at UCSB. He is so sweet and genuine. Such a wonderful person to get to know. His testing is fair and he just truly wants students to understand material. My favorite part of class was going to the Gurdwara. Such a beautiful experience. Unfortunately he left SB but I hope to cross paths once more.
EXCELLENT TEACHER. MUST TAKE
As an expert researcher in Sikh and Global Studies, Gurminder Singh Mann is very knowledgeable and makes lectures interesting and easy to understand. His 104 class had one research paper and a pretty easy midterm. Love his accent, loved his class, and would definitely recommend.
Absolutely love this professor. Such an adorable sweet man. Very passionate and cares about students' success. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Best professor!!! He is sooo nice and funny... the readings are helpful but not mandatory, he takes attendance randomly, and has a few quizzes here and there.
HE IS THE BEST
Mann is AMAZING. He is so kind and sincere, and although the material is dry at some points, his passion for teaching and Indian culture makes up for it. Fairly easy, 2 quizzes a midterm he gives you the questions for, and an 8 page final. Don't need to do the readings, but you need the reader as sources for the final. Definitely recommend!
Professor Mann is an amazing professor. He is one of the most genuine educators I have ever met. The class is not as easy as its made out to be. You have to work to get your 8 page paper done and study to do well on quizzes and exams. He gives you everything you need to do well though so the studying and paper are really straight forward.
Professor Mann is probably one of my favorite professors at UCSB. He is very easy to talk to and approachable. The accent did not become an issue at all.
Professor Mann is amazing. I loved this class! He is so funny and, because english is his second language, his syntax is so different in the best way. He is VERY passionate about is subject but that just makes it more interesting. Would definitely take another class with him :)
Really sweet man. Truly cares about his students. I feel like his grading is off where it goes higher than it should. Received an A when I failed quizzes and didn't get any participation points since I didn't go to class. Did essay the night before without even doing the full 8 pages. Got A- on midterm. But hey, it helps out the students.
This class was by far one of the easiest classes I've ever taken at UCSB. He gives all ID's and possible essays for the midterm. I only attended class 5 times and read the text maybe twice and received an A+.
Dr. Mann is the sweetest man I have ever met. I always feel like giving him a hug! His lectures can get a little boring sometimes, especially because it's an 8am, but the quizzes and tests are easy as long as you pay attention in class. All he really wants is for his students to understand the material. Highly recommend his class!
Very sweet professor and extremely understanding. Lectures are enough to get through the course without too much concern for the readings - however, the readings are VERY plentiful if you choose to attempt them. TAs were terrible. But Professor Mann is amazing and the class is a decent choice to fulfill GEs.
He is so genuinely nice, I would have been bored to tears if not for his demeanor making up for the material. He does give alot of notes though, so come to class preparing to write. My TA was weird but besides that it was an enjoyable class. Midterm was easy, reading quizes were basically freebies.
Professor Mann is one the best professors I have ever had at UCSB, hands down. He is so genuinely nice and caring. He wants to give good grades, so he's not looking to mess anyone up. The midterm was very easy, and the final was an 8 page research paper that was wasn't even that bad. Honestly, take this class you won't regret it. He's perfect!
Professor Mann was absolutely amazing, not only as a teacher, but as a role model. I went to class just to listen to him talk, he is incredible. The midterm was insanely easy (he gives you the answers prior), the TAs grade very easily, and you dont have to do any of the reading except for the weekly assignments, which are a piece of cake! LOVE HIM!
Prof Mann is the sweetest professor ive ever dealt with. The reader is pretty crazy and theres a lot of 'unnecessary' reading assigned. Weekly TA section assignments. One easy midterm. Two easy quizzes. and a painful 8pg research paper. Easy A. I would take any class w him again.
Professor Mann is a very sweet soft spoken man who likes to hear his students opinions. This class is A LOT of work. The reading assignments are ridiculous, and Professor Mann's lectures barely cover the surface of what these readings go into. The TAs also make it really painful to sit through section. Be prepared to work.
I did not know any punjabi coming into this class and I really wanted to learn, this class helped me so much and now I can read and write to my grandparents and other family classes. Very good class :)
Sweetest, most gracious professor I have ever had. Extremely interesting class!
Hands down the NICEST professor ever. He doesn't care much about grading his students, he is far more concerned in their happiness and understanding of the subject. He let us pick the difficulty level and length of our first test, and is always lenient about having to do the reading. His sheer humanity keeps me fully engaged in class!
Interesting class encompassing most of Indian history; wasn't so much focused on religion as much as the general culture. Lectures were DENSELY filled with notes, but were bearable. Exams were specific, but not too hard. Claire Robison, the TA, was incredible and super friendly/nice!
Hands down the best professor I've had so far. He's entertaining during lectures, kind during office hours, and has extremely reasonable tests. He's definitely the Punjabi Dumbledore.
