It feels impossible to get an A in this class honestly. This class is based off 3 exams only and it is honestly pretty difficult to get an "A" even if you study. I genuinely love health psychology but his exams were too tricky. I would say skip this class overall. If he curved the course it would be nice but he does not. :/
Prof Sherman is a nice guy, I really enjoyed the class but his exams are no joke. They're pretty ridiculous but he's been really accomodating during the pandemic, which is really appreciated.
Nice guy but confusing exam questions. The class is not difficult but make sure to read the book and read the lectures to succeed as exams are 50/50 book and lecture. Exams are non cumulative and the class is generally very interesting!
clear and concise lecturer, the class is really not a lot of work. grade is based on 3 tests, very fair
This class was a special topics class and the midterm and final were a paper very similar to the one you have to write for PSY 10 A (design an intervention). Very nice teacher and overall chill class. Only stressful when writing papers but otherwise easy and interesting and socially relevant!
3 exams equally determine your grade (not cumulative). Exams are an even split between the book and his lectures, not too difficult if you study. This class requires a lot of time for the readings but its not a difficult A.
After taking this course, I will say that this class was difficult. You have to study both the lectures and the book to ace the exams. I will strongly advise anyone taking this class to study both the book and lectures daily, go to office hours, and get help from the TA. This class isn't the class to procrastinate, you have to study hard!
Class broken up into three exams worth the same amount of credit. Some of the matrial is really dry. I did well on the first 2 exams that I read for and were also lecture heave. The final was based on the book which is why I did not get an A. My couse load was heavy. I did not have time time to read everything for evey class. Some toppics are good.
Two midterms, one final. Each worth 33.33% of your grade. Lectures were okay, not too interesting but not too boring either. Tests were fair, be sure to read!!!
I really didn't like the content of this class and I feel like most of the material could have been managed in a couple of weeks, but someone make it into a tedious, poorly structured 10-week course. It was a really boring class, but the tests were fair
Good teacher. Interesting class. Pretty easy if you study lectures and skim the book. He breaks the class into 3 chunks that are not cummulative.
Very boring lecturer. His tests are challenging. There are 3 tests (2 midterms and a final). They are not cumulative but still hard. I went to his office hours and not really helpful. I wouldn't take him again, try taking another teacher if you can't his class is doable but not the best teacher to take.
As a international student, I would say professor Sherman's lectures are not hard to understand IF YOU DO TH READINGS! I did miserably (3350---C-) on my first midterm because I only studied his lecture notes. But for my second midterm, I based my studying mostly on the textbook and use lecture notes as a go-over and I scored an A (yeah)
AVOID AT ALL COSTS Sherman is extremely dry. His tests aren't conventionally difficult, but he asks irrelevant questions which seem like minor details not the core concepts you thought you should study. Even if you attend every lecture, read the textbook and study, you will probably still get a B (he has to curve the class bc of this). Avg: C
Great professor. Very engaging and uses his resources wisely.
Professor Sherman could have given the entire course in a one-hour slideshow. It was a content-poor class that, despite being interesting material, Sherman managed to make tedious. Test questions did not correlate strongly to the course material, and his lecturing style is as exciting as watching paint dry. Would not recommend.
Great class, interesting material. Relies more on interesting outside material like articles than the text, which I liked. Lectures are interesting too. Tests are not easy, but contrary to other posts, this is not a bad thing. He words them to ensure you comprehend the material, very doable if you actually put effort into studying.
Class material is easy to understand and lectures are interesting, but tests are unfairly tricky for the level of the material. They are completely multiple choice and questions/answers are worded in ways that are just plain confusing. Tests are unfair, would not recommend Sherman, but class is interesting.
This class is particularly hard, I'm not sure why, but I think it's the way he phrases his questions on hist test. Overall the material is VERY interesting, occasionally I had a hard time paying attention to him though. Read the book/lecture/readings, and you'll do fine. Attendance not really necessary to pass.
you need to read and study the slides to get an A. the tests are 50/50 slides & book. if anyone needs the book yahoo email ucsbgrl. he also gives you 2 pts extra credit on an assignment. pretty tough class, but it's very possible to get an A
Nice guy but this class is really boring. The power point is very bulky and hard to follow. The book is very dry but you can't pass the tests without reading. Going to class isn't necessary because full lectures are online. Final is easier than the midterms in my opinion. One of the least interesting of the psych classes
Professor Sherman is a nice guy but his lectures always tend to go on the dry side. Keep up with the readings and attend class, and you should be fine--although the department curve is definitely something to worry about.
It is very hard to pay attention in class but the material was easy to understand and if you study you can do well in the class.
Sherman is a really nice guy and very helpful if you need him. We had only one test and 2 papers. The test is unreasonably difficult but the papers weren't bad and worth a lot more. I can only recommend going to your TA's office hours for each paper, otherwise it makes this class a lot more difficult.
