1st midterm was really easy, but 2nd midterm and final were unreasonably hard for the material. He didn't curve at all and wouldn't round my 89.75 up to an A-. First class I haven't received an A in at UCSB. He's a really nice guy, but a little monotone. He needs to learn to control his "mmmkay" usage too.
This class had a lot of interesting material but the tests were designed to be a bit tricky and it seemed despite the material we were studying, the professor himself seemed a bit out of it...boring and mono-toned would be a good description!
Horrible teacher who assigns an absurd amount of online articles and reading, he says mmkay after everything, he is sooo boring, teachers like him ruin school, sorry to say it, do not take him, take Germans developmental class, she knows what shes doing
Health psychology seemed interesting and easy when I first added this class. However, taking this class with him maid it boring and uninteresting/a little hard at the same time. It was hard to stay awake and pay attention for me so it's a 50-50 choice to make with this class. Pay attention and read and you will pass with no problem.
I underestimated how difficult the midterms would be, so I ended up with a B- in the class. The psych curve makes it very difficult to get an A. Overall, not too hard. Don't fall behind in reading, take good notes, and study before midterms.
There was a difficult midterm, but the class itself is not difficult. 10% for attendance and 5% for the presentation helps your grade. The papers are graded by the TA based on a rubric and you get guidance on the 1st paper. My TA(Diana Leonard) gave my group/section incorrect info on multiple occasions that resulted in a lower grade for me shesucks
I thought this class was great!! The lectures were actually pretty interesting and there were even a few guest lectures. It was very fair as well. As long as you read and go to class you should get an A.
I have taken both Psych 7 and Psych 101 with Prof. Sherman, and although he probably is a very nice man, his lectures are so mundane and boring. he tries to fit every little detail in his slides and he is a very nervous speaker. Her is also very distracting because he says the words "KAY, MMKAY, and OKAY" after every sentence. SOO ANOOYING!
Sherman has been my favorite professor in the psychology department so far. I had him for Psy 7 as well. The class is extremely organized and fair. Three exams all equally weighted and are from the readings, lecture, and book.
He is a really sweet guy but lectures can get very boring. Make sure to read the book as well as attend lectures because the test are 50/50. Be careful because it may seem easy, but the tests are actually pretty challenging (just like psych 3). I read and went to lecture and got an A-, good luck!
he is a great lecturer and is very interested in the subject matter, uses interesting experiments, but the tests are VERY hard. all multiple choice. i studied so much & still got a C ):
Required class for psych majors. Sherman is really nice, but his lectures are a bit dry. Tests are mostly multiple-choice with some short answer - note: short answer is extremely tricky! Make sure you know how to write up statistics for research papers. He was very helpful during our lab - ran all the tests for us.
During the course of the quarter everything seems so straight-forward and easy but once it actually comes down to taking the test, they become deceivingly HARD. There's no way around it though, since psy 7 is a prereq.
EXCELLENT CLASS AND TEACHER! Prof. Sherman is one of my all time favorite teachers. Pretty much if you go to lecture and do all the reading you should get an A.
He is a nice and intelligent professor. However, he can be boring and his tests are very difficult.
Really nice Professor, but really hard tests. For a 3 unit class you have to work harder that most 4 unit classes. Unfortunately it's a prereq for psch majors ;(
Seems like a really nice guy but class did get boreing Very interesting topics, dragged a little. There are two test and that is it & they were harder than I expected. You have to do all the reading which is a lot and go to the lectures, I think the break down for the tests was 50% from lectur, 25% from reader & 25% from book, but he covers everythin
What a sweet man! He's really nice and you can tell the subject interests him. His lectures are really clear, which makes his tests easier than they could be. Pretty easy class, just a midterm and final.
sherman is a really nice guy! if you study the lectures and book a bit you will do great. not the most knowledgable psych prof though
I usually go to class...however, this class made me pass out. Yay for being tested on the facts of life! The number one thing you should know: Stress makes you sick and placebos work. Oh, and his midterm and final are worth the same, which screwed me over. 80% for the midterm and 98% for the final = B+ in the class. Whatever.
Boring, simply reads his slides to class with a little info added to it, can not respond to most questions asked in class by students, he is nice but not the best!!!
The lab part of this class was fairly cool, but I thought that his lecture was like watching paint dry. He's super nice and everything, but I wanted to fall asleep during class. I know that research methods is a boring subject, but come on!! The tests also had VERY SPECIFIC one-liners from the text. Yeah, memorize it like the Bible. It was weird...
I was really interested in the subject which is why I took the class. Found the tests to be hard, I got a C even though I studied notes and book. Nice man kinda boring some guest speakers were good.
This professor is boring. You really don't need to go to all the classes, he puts the slides online and pretty much just reads them in lecture. You do need to read the book and reader, about half the test questions are from there. Guest speakers are cool. Overall, I would NOT recommend his class.
