Sherman wants his students to learn, and although he may a shy lecturer, he tries to make his class interesting by telling little anecdotes and he ALWAYS gives good examples. Test questions can become either really specific or ambiguous, but you can get a B in class if you don't even do the readings but just go to lecture and look over notes
Sherman is a good lecturer and material is clear. Midterms are easy if you go to class and read.
I didn't like him when i first took a class with him (Psych 7) but I think this class (101) gave him a chance to redeem himself. And he succeeded. This class was a lot more enjoyable and I recommend it. Pretty easy.
Even though psy 7 is the most boring class ever, it actually isn't THAT bad or hard...i just read the chapters (short) and ended up with an 85%...the problem is everyone does well and with the bell curve that gave me a C+!!! SOOOO lame.
Easy class but this professor has no enthusiasm for psychology. He seemed to have wanted to be anywhere else than lecturing psychology here at UCSB. Total bummer.
Prof Sherman was a horrible prof. I had a grad student in the department who told me to avoid his classes like the plague, I didn't, and I paid the price, my grade. His lectures were boring, and he reads right off of the slides. His test questions are tricky and created to confuse. For all are sakes, I hope he is a better researcher than a prof.
Class is okay, kinda boring at times but you can tell Sherman tries to make the class interesting. Do the reading, it will help a lot and the reading is pretty interesting. Only problem, tests are not the fairest, some questions are ambiguous, you can know the material very well and still get a B on the tests.
This class is BORING, but we have to take it. Exams are 50% lecture, 50% text. Straightforward questions but anything can be on the exam. its helpful to take Soduku to class. Sherman is very helpful during office hours and answers emails pretty quickly

Interesting material. He varies lectures with guest speakers and videos. Some tricky multiple choice test questions.
Clear lectures, good humor, sensible grading. Really a great prof.
The material seems easy but wth his boring teaching and non specifics on what to study the tests say otherwise. It is better not to go to class and just study for yourself. Atleast at home you can get a more peacefull sleep. Material is intersting but the way he reads his powerpoint verbatim makes it BORING!!! ZzzZZz ZZzzZ ZZz Z Zzz
I've taken three classes with Sherman and I have enjoyed all of them, especially 140. He is very approachable and sweet. Sometimes the lectures are a little boring, but having the notes online really helped out. The reading is usually pretty interesting and the tests are always straight forward.
the material was very interesting, but the teacher is boring, and his hand gestures get to be a bit much. i had to fight to stay awake, all he does is read the power point off which could be done at home.
I thought the class was way easy and very clear cut. He gave the notes before class and the tests were toally fair. If you do the reading and know the notes you will be fine. Material was interesting but be careful not to look at his hands to much, he keeps claping them.
Yes, this class was suprisingly difficult! On midterms he asks tricky and specific questions about the readings so be prepared! The material is REALLY interesting but you can tell that Sherman is really nervous when he lectures... he claps a lot. Overall a good class but harder than it looks!
This class SEEMED so easy. When I was studying for the midterms I totally thought I had the cat in the bag. I seriously felt like I knew the material 100% but somehow got a consistent 84%s on both midterms. I think this class seems a lot easier than it is. Oh, and count how many times you hear "k" when he is lecturing. Listen carefully!
Totally agree w/ the comment posted by the neutral face person. Lectures were straight-fwd but was very standoffish and distant in person. Seems 2b easily annoyed by questions, is very unhelpful in answering them. This made me reluctant to approach him and made the class less enjoyable.
Tests were hard.. not very clear. Organized but never mader clear what he wanted. Unsure of what to study for tests. Boring.. made me sleep every class.
I thought this guy was totally cute. He would share little anecdotes about his own experiences in college/grad school. Definitely he was a rocker in the 90's-He talked about going to Lalapalooza and such. I thought the class was pretty interesting as well.
Nice guy and his lectures are easy to follow. You need to do the reading, but it's worth it in the end. After all, research methods aren't exactly the most exciting thing on the planet! Take him; he's nice and fair on his grading policy!
you have to do ALL The readings, but if you do and take notes you will do well. friendly guy with interesting lectures, but makes tests 1/2 lecture 1/2 book = need to study for an A!
A little redundant in lecture, but he's very fair and wants to make sure everyone grasps what's going on. He's a little shy in person, but very nice if you try in his class.
Interesting class and textbook. Clear teaching style but professor was not very helpful other than that. Didn't really like his attitude in one on one conversation.
