Professor Guo is very knowledgeable on the subject matter and is always happy to chat about anything even tangentially related to machine learning. He is also very understanding of extenuating circumstances that students may have. The midterm and final are fairy easy, homework is much harder in comparison, but he gives a LOT of time to do them.
Homeworks are easy, with only 3 assignments the whole quarter. The midterm and final make up the majority of the overall grade, but are very easy and similar to the practice midterm/final. The content is mostly traditional ML (neural networks and transformers are only mentioned in the last 2 weeks). The final grade is also curved up.
He is genuinely kind and wants his students to succeed. His homeworks are easy and there is not a lot of coursework, only had 3 homeworks in the quarter. The midterm and final was according to the class materials and slides, not difficult, he even provides midterm practices and final practices and grades very easy. Overall, very good class.
Professors first time teaching and he was actually a great lecturer, seemed very passionate about the material. He also really wants his students to succeed. The exams were super easy as they were exactly like homework and exam review questions. He also provided a lot of resources and review sessions. Highly recommend.
Cares a lot about students. In my opinion I really liked the last two weeks when he covered transformers, but, and this also has to do with the department, but thought a lot of the content covered was very useless in terms of industry e.g. midterm covered math topics way too heavily. Also OH were structured terribly they were all on one day of week
Professor Guo is a wonderful instructor. He really knows how to teach! Although deep learning is a challenging topic, he can always make it easy to understand and teach it in simple way. He is very patient and will not skip any step to make sure you fully understand the concepts. I really learnt a lot from his lectures!
