Awesome professor and class is so interesting! The only thing is that I was assigned more readings for this class than I have maybe ever at UCSB, so even if you try your absolute best it is very unlikely you'll be able to keep up with the readings all the time. Otherwise I absolutely recommend this class or any class with Professor Mayes!

We only had a midterm and final. Smooth grader. Funny in lecture. slides don't align with what he says, I didnt read but finding the books were easy online.

Professor Mayes is always mobile, engaging, and passionate. On top of this, he is clearly an expert on what he teaches. The only downside of this class was its disorganized nature, but I expect him to resolve this as it was his first term at UCSB. He was easy to talk to and reasonable about grades. He even showed off his great taste in music.
