Outstanding professor. Extremely passionate, articulate and knows how to create a cohesive course that remains relevant and engaging, even in a large lecture hall.

Hinckley is the best Political science professor. He makes lectures and materials really clear. Go to lecture they really help in understanding the material. I highly recommend this class with Hinckley

Hinckley is a very good lecturer and I had no trouble following along because he somehow made comparative politics interesting to learn. I had no interest going into the class, but I learned a great deal about types of government and the human development sequence. I somehow got a C+ after receiving a B on the midterm. Dont know about paper/final.

I loved Hinckley for PS 6, and I was thrilled when I saw I could take 104 with him. One of the nicest instructors I've ever had, and doesn't overwork his students.

I fully recommend Hinckley for this class. There is no midterm or final test, just papers (3 pg and 6 page). He usually does weekly online, timed quizzes on the readings that are annoying buy doable. There is a decent amount of reading, but it is interesting.

Hinckley is the BEST! His powerpoints are interesting (and not wordy), he engages with the class by asking questions all the time, and he is overall just a VERY NICE AND EASY GUY. He'll NEVER put you down in class and always appreciate your input (but that doesn't mean you have to speak if you don't want to). He's EASY and he's INTERESTING. A+

Basically, Hinckely is the man. He took the dreaded PS 104 and made it interesting and easy to understand. He has a dry sense of humor and is very approachable. Wants students to do well and will help you with anything. Treats students as equals and doesn't think he's a big shot just because he has his P.hD. Take him at all costs

Hinkley is a sweet guy but this class was completely boring. There was way to much reading and on top of that in order to understand and participate in the discussions you need to be well versed in current events and history. He is far too vague. He over simplifies and never gets to anything meaningful, its extremely frustrating.

The greatest political science professor at UCSB. Extremely kind, clear, and helpful, you could not ask for anything more from a professor. He gives great lectures and makes them as interesting as possible. All pol. sci. students should take at least one class with him during their time here if not more. Great guy!

From what I hear, he has improved so much more since he began, teaching LAWSO 2. Maybe teaching classes within his disclipine is the reason for it. I recommend him to anyone, since it was 104.

this professor is totally boring. He was the worst that i have had in ucsb. do not take him--i warn you. He reads his lecture notes word by word---Can you say BORING?
