Assigns long, hard homework that you will end up spending hours on. I suggest to start early on the homework. He grades hard but he is a nice guy and will answer your questions to help you out if needed. Lecture was optional and had a written and oral final. Overall not a bad professor, but not the best either.
Very chill professor. Office hours are really helpful for understanding the content and the homework. He'll answer all your questions and help you understand the difficult stuff. However, homework's hard and tedious so don't start it the day it's due. If you keep up with lectures/hw, go to OH, and read the textbooks, you should be able to get an A.
His math8 is the worst course I have ever taken at UCSB. I normally spent over eight hours on his homework per week and he is really a tough grader. If you have a better option, never take his course.
His train of thought is all over the place. Notes are just a random compilation of ideas and follow no structure. Avoid him at all costs.
Easy going teacher but cannot explain topics clearly and his handwriting makes things more hard to understand. Often says "super trivial" when going over concepts and skips over them.......
Garo was a chill prof and the class is very doable if you stay on top of homework. Lecture isn't mandatory but is useful. Office hours are super helpful for understanding material and homework. Coursework and difficulty of class were very reasonable. Would definitely take again!
