I had him for history of popular music, and he was a very engaging lecturer. He assigned readings, but i didn't read them and did just fine. He also explains musical terms so those who have very limited musical knowledge can still take the course and do well. The work load isn't that bad either.
Professor Holton was honestly great! I am a remote student while everyone else is in school because I have a traumatic brain injury, but he is very accommodating. The whole class was very good. Professor Holton explained everything very thoroughly. The homework was moderate to nothing at best, which let me focus.
The lectures were fairly interesting and he actually seems very interested in the class topics. Low rating purely because he expected me to expose myself to covid to take a quiz, not an exam, not a final, a QUIZ. If you take his class don't expect him to any make accommodations for you.
This class was fine and easy. However, my main gripe was the unaccommodating nature of Jared and his mandatory attendance at not only Sections, but Lecture as well. He was dismissive in emails and in-person about this, and proved to not budge in his requirements for student participation, even when factors out of our control came in. It was meh
Professor Holton was amazing! His lectures are genuinely fascinating and assignments are pretty easy and straightforward. Mandatory section is the only part I didn’t love. 2 in class quizzes which you should study for and two easy papers. The professor is super accessible and the paper topics are really open ended. Also a few mandatory concerts.
Professor Holton is the best! He is great at making lectures interesting and brought up some really cool topics as well. Paper prompts are very open-ended and you can talk about any topics that interest you! If you do the work you should do fine in the course!
Grade consisted of 5 quizzes, 5 forum posts and 3 essays. The lectures are very manageable and there was no homework. There are readings though which are asked about on the quizzes and forums. Super engaging and tolerable class. Jared is an amazing professor and makes lectures interesting. Mandatory section every week, take the class!
He makes the whole course super interesting and is super nice and encouraging
Professor Holton is one of the best at UCSB. His lectures are recorded but so engaging and truly fun. He also does optional group reflection sections where you can ask him about anything in the course and this is so helpful, literally better than section.
Professor Holton is amazing! His lectures are engaging, he's super knowledgeable and is very accessible outside of class. Also, the course content is very easy, if you put in a sliver of effort you should get an A.
Jared is the BEST! Super helpful, awesome TA who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
