Castiglioni is quite the iconic professor with a thick Italian accent. He's very nice to the students as well. His lectures are interesting and he explains things in great detail. The class isn't hard in terms of work load (some reading), just make sure you go to lecture and take notes since the tests are just memorization of a LOT of information.

Very informative and enthusiastic. Made going to lecture very interesting. The insights he interjected into the course content elevated it to a higher level that one can only achieve at a university. If you are not comfortable with sexuality, then avoid the class. He is not afraid of discussing it in the historical Japanese context. Overall, okay.

He lectured mainly verbally and used slides occasionally, which for a 75 minute lecture occasionally was tiring. Readings for the class were extremely dense but not really relevant to tests - if you listened at least a bit to lectures you'd be fine. Super fun and accommodating professor otherwise.
