Professor Hurtado is a good professor, if a bit disorganized at times. The class is not too difficult as long as one gives decent effort, doing the readings and taking notes in lectures. Pretty standard. A 94 is needed for an A, so I'd recommend not slacking too much and getting attendance points.

Hurtado is really full of herself. She makes you buy two books that she wrote (neither of which is interesting). She teaches her opinions as if they were facts. She's clearly piggybacking off of other, more famous Chicano activists because she has contributed little to the field. However, the class is very easy.

Prof. Hurtado was an awesome professor! She cared very much about her students understanding the material and psychological wellbeing. The books were very interesting and her midterms/finals were super easy if you do all of the reading! Her research is impressive and she was super invested in the work she taught. Great class, definitely recommend!

This class made me want to become a Chicano Studies major. I can agree it was unorganized but she is really passionate. She is funny and charismatic. She made us read 4 books, two she wrote and two autobiographies. I thought her books were amazing, the autobiographies less so. Regardless, very easy class to get an A. Really no effort is involved.

She is extremely unorganized and makes you buy two of her own books which are not very interesting. The other two books are pretty good though. The class is a pretty easy A as long as you get the main concepts, use Guachospace study guide, and pay attention to the movies. Also, she is a very sweet person.

Very unorganized class, she barely taught and relied heavily on guest lectures and movies. Easy A but it isn't a class you will look forward to attending.

Most unorganized class have ever taken at UCSB. Didn't really learn anything in the class, a lot of guest lectures. Easy A--I didn't read anything and still got an A

Concepts are repetitive, but somewhat interesting. I feel like we had more guest lecturers than actual lectures taught by her. 4 books - you mainly just have to know the vocab words, the two biographies, and the story of her brother. Midterm, final, and a final paper. Exams were easy, not a difficult class overall. The TAs are wonderful.

Lecture is mandatory (she does a word of the day) but pointless because she goes off on tangents and isn't well organized. Class was about Gender and Sexuality but felt like more of a Psych/Soc class where she talked a lot about her brother. 4 books total, used all of them. Midterm and final were both nothing too difficult.
