Sarantsev is the professor you want when taking a hard class. He has office hours EVERY DAY and pauses for questions every 10 min in class and responds to emails! He said on the first day that he passes 90% of the class. Do the homework twice each week and you'll pass the weekly quizzes. Python problems are easy. Final you get a cheat sheet.

Professor Sarantsev is a natural. I hope that he has a tenured professorship in his future. He knows the material inside and out, and he can explain it clearly, AND he cares about being a good teacher. For an upper division theoretical statistics class this is an amazing combination of traits. I wish all of my teachers were this good.

Sarantsev's lectures were clear and methodical; he took long pauses to ask for questions and allowed students to ponder the material. His grading for Pstat 160A was strange: a 30% final with weekly quizzes worth around 10% each. His final exam was straightforward, but the quizzes were a tad unfair, at times testing rote calculation skills.

Sarantsev is a great guy, although not all will agree with his grading criteria (weekly 2Q quizzes based on homework are worth 70% of the grade). Having said that, he allows ample time to answer questions during lecture and holds office hours at least three times in one week. He insists on helping you understand and truly cares! Need more like him.

Need to put in the work to do well, but explains concepts clearly and answers questions thoroughly. Homework was a little difficult, but tests and the curve were fair. The only complaint I had was that we didn't get through everything, making some parts of 120B difficult.

Lectures were very long and boring. Tests were not easy. Reasonable HW. Not helpful at all during OH

His lectures are pretty much the notes he posts on gauchospace, so not necessary to go. He does work out examples beyond the notes that are helpful for studying. Homework load is doable. Provides practice midterms/finals. Does throw curveballs on exams though, so know how to apply concepts to different situations.
