Nice professor. Interested in teaching, she knew all of our names.
Professor is a good lecturer, but when it comes to the math and graphs, she drops the ball. She refuses to use the whiteboard when dealing with tedious mathwork, and will show you slides that give you quick snippets of knowledge for a subject matter that needs a LOT more explaining. Multiple choice questions have multiple answers. Don't Take!!!
Terrible course. Tested on very deep details when lecture notes are too basic. TELLS YOU PROBLEMS WILL NOT BE ON THE FINAL, BUT THEN GIVES YOU THEM ANYWAY. ANOTHER REVIEW WARNS ABOUT THIS, IT'S TRUE. BY THE END OF THE COURSE YOU HAVEN'T LEARNED ANYTHING ABOUT HOW WHAT REAL ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMISTS DO.
Professor is nice and explains well but class was actually really hard and uninteresting. Average midterm scores were really low. Homework is mandatory and due weekly, you get graded on correctness and it's not that easy. Attendance in section is 15% of grade. I wouldn't suggest as an Econ elective but you can definitely pass if you work hard.
Class was hard..but prof is super smart and super helpful. One of the best classes Ive taken at UCSB :) BUT, you do have to work hard to understand all the material.
Lectures are a bit confusing, but she will try and explain if you ask questions.
Environmental econ is an area ucsb specializes in and therefore you should only take this class if you are serously interested in it, or else you will get burned trying to brush by. Having said that, I felt oliva did a good job, she fit as much as she could in the lecture, very helpful in O.H., and thetextbok is good
Feel free to take this class with her if you guys want to get "F" tattooed on your transcript. Worst professor at UCSB!!!
Absolutely the worst teacher/professor I have ever had. Unable to portray the material in a comprehensible manner. Avoid at all costs.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Worst teacher i ever had. She is unclear in everything she teaches and doesn't seem to care about the students. She gives you problems that you "dont have to know" but then will grade you on them. Again: worst teacher I ever had.
