His class is great. He is not. His class was extremely easy and straight forward. But he himself, if you talk to him through email, is really mean.

One of my favorite classes at UCSB. If you have any interest in the history of the America's wars you will love this class. Lt. Col. Stokes was very knowledgeable and helpful. Boosted my GPA and learned a lot

By far one of the best professors on the UCSB campus. One of the great thinkers in Military History.

This class is easy, but he is getting harder, there is no review anymore. Theres a midterm, an 1800 word research paper, and a Final. The rules for the paper and the grading are very straightforward. Its an easy topic: explain how a piece of technology changed warfare. He highlights all the information that will be on the test on his powerpoints.

This class is a great GPA booster. Your grade consists of two exams and an essay. The essay is straightforward and if you attend all the lectures you will know ALL the answers to the tests. Lectures can be long and boring, but are definitely worth going to. I would recommend this class.

lectures were excrutiatingly boring. i liked stokes a lot and his powerpoints but the subject was painfully uninteresting. easy enough to get an A, he told the class that 80% pull an A. attendance not taken but vital to learning the material although there is a review before the midterm and the final. good for GEs.

Great class for those who just need to fulfill GE's. Really easy and straightforward as long as you attend lecture and study your notes. The paper isn't too difficult if you put some effort into it. Definitely take to boost that GPA!

Lectures can be boring. Easy class if you excel at history. Book is interesting, but not necessary. Gives a good review right before tests, definitely attend class that day. One research paper, start early and just get it done.

His lectures are boring. BUT, if you make sure to attend the review session before the midterm you'll ace it. Also, there is one paper- but it's practical. And he didn't even give us a final! Talk about the best GPA boosting class ever. HOOAHH!

The text book was more interesting then the lectures. Stokes has power points packed with information and reads directly from them (reminds me of a high school project where students had to teach something to their fellow peers..pretty bad). Only good thing is it's the easiest class I have ever taken in my life (including pre-school). Easy A

Incredible class. First half of the course i was nervous because there was alot of reading, but the class before the midterm he gave us the entire outline of the midterm. If I had only shown up to that single class i probably will still have passed. Midterm+Final+Final Paper.

Really easy class!!!! It consists of a midterm, paper and final. He gives you the paper topic on the first day. He does a review of the tests the class before which he basically gives you the answers. I missed more than half of the classes and I still got an A. It covers a writing requirement and a D.
