I took this course over the summer and it was async which has it's benefits and drawbacks. This course is good for people who want fewer assignments, but it's difficult to improve your grade if you do poorly on one. There was a midterm (40%), final essay (50%), and an easy exercise (10%).

Interesting class, though also hard because topic requires so miniscule analysis. No attendance during lectures taken, but sections. Funny lectures because of examples from shows. Reading mostly not necessary, except occasionally for assignments (only take-home, no tests).

The content itself was confusing but he took the time to make sure students understood the material to the best of their ability. You can tell her loves teaching the subject which made it interesting to learn. Grades were based on an easy assignment, the midterm paper and final paper. Show up to lectures and you should be fine.

Raymond was the best professor as far as the soc department’s justice system courses! I have taken many of professors who teach the justice system in the soc department and he was the best! Avoid Gordon at all costs & take Raymond and Rios instead u won’t regret it! Easy material, graded on group project and midterm and final!

Awesome professor! Took him for the Summer course, the class itself is a hard thing to grasp. But he has a way of explaining things really great. Go to office hours if things are not clear super nice in explaining if you really did not understand a single thing. Or to just talk, very interesting conventions, worth a while.

Professor Raymond is absolutely incredible! He truly wants you to take the material outside the university and you can see this in his care with his lectures. This is the kind of class that sticks with you, and he's extremely open to discussion outside and during class time. I would highly recommend if you have any curiosity about policing.

You can just see his passion for the subject everytime professor Raymond lectures, which made the class that much interesting. He is understanding and caring, always willing to listen to his student's feedback. Such a kind professor would definitely take his class again!

This class was taught alongside another lecturer, Dr. Melekeian, who has experience in the police force. Their lectures are well organized and relatively easy to understand. Expect an above than normal amount of reading per week from this class. If you have any issues with assignments, he is very considerate and may push back some dates.

Best professor I've had at UCSB. Clear on what he expects for papers, and very engaging lectures. Will take as many courses taught by him I can. Structure is an introductory essay, 6 page midterm, 6 page final. Great class.
