Great prof, the two midterms, paper and final are all easy as long as you read all of the readings and pay attention in lecture (don't have to take notes, he posts the lectures online). Easier said than done though, as there is a ton of reading. I would still definitely recommend this class though, especially if you're interested in the subject.

Appelbaum has got to be one of the most passionate and enthusiastic professors I have had all quarter. He genuinely loves what he teaches, and he loves the students too! Lectures are interesting and engaging, and tests are fair if you read and attend class. Should not be difficult to get an A if you put in the time and effort.

Appelbaum is one of the most honest and inspirational individuals I have had the pleasure of being taught by. This class goes over world issues and makes you a more competent and compassionate human being. It isn't necessarily easy (2 midterms, final, and final 12 page paper), but is still completely manageable. Please take this class!!!!

Super knowledgeable and enthusiastic about global issues, and likes to throw in (bad) jokes from time to time. Very likeable professor, although lecture can occasionally get a bit dry when referring to economic terms and stuff like that. Lots of extra credit on exams and 12 questions on both midterms and final are map questions which are super easy

He was a bit confusing during lecture, his powerpoints didn't help too much, but he was a sweet guy. A lot of guest lecturers. There was a 10 page paper, 2 midterms and a final. All of those were HARD. If you don't do the readings, which there are a lot of, then you're screwed for the test. There are extra credit opportunities which will help you.

It's been 29 years since I took his class but I tell everyone that I am an architect Because of this professor. From his teachings I bacame interested in urban sociology which then lead me to urban studies which then lead me to UC Berkeley which then lead me to architecture .. Reason ? one can help change society through the built environment.

there is a TON of reading and you have to keep up with all of it because both midterms and the final include incredibly specific questions based on readings and lecture. However, there are many extra credit opportunities, and it is a very interesting class. He posts slides online but you should still attend lecture. I recommend a class with him.

2 midterms, 1 paper and 1 final + section attendance and participation. Extra credit opportunities. Exams are fair game, a combination of concepts from readings and lecture, plus a few map questions. For a global major, this class is easy and interesting. His teaching is a little slow but easy to follow. He is a sweet, loveable guy.

While the readings are interesting, you cannot do well on the tests unless you do all of them, he will test you on specifics and you have to know who said what. Lectures are interesting, take good notes!

Attendance is semi-vital(I went to 3/4ths of the lectures) bc he puts a bunch of questions from lectures, guest lectures and the essays written by other SB faculty. Tests are easy and fair. Dedicate a little bit of time to read EVERYTHING thoroughly. I read everything right before the tests and got an A in the class. Interesting subject, curved too
