Colin Gardner is a gentleman and a scholar! If you take the time to engage the readings and the lectures, you will find the class extremely rewarding. He genuinely listens to his students and wants you to a) understand the material b) expand your own mind and scholarship. Dude is brilliant- a fab writer and a a true joy to hear speak.
I just graduated, and this man is the best professor I had at UCSB. He knows critical theory inside and out, and not just the materialist side! He's on it. Listen to this man and question him, enjoy and laugh at his lectures. For real laugh if you find something absurd; he'll appreciate it. Wanna understand pomo? Question him.
This class was confusing, but not difficult. Prof Gardner is a delight, but the examples he uses are almost exclusively esoteric, but I enjoyed the class by the end of it. One only has to pay attention to two lectures to get an A, as the grade comes from two papers based around a single topic each. I do wish he used more accessible examples
This teacher has to be one of the most brilliant people I have ever come across in my life. If you're too lazy to take this class for the papers, you're missing out. Do the work, its only two ten page essays. Talk to him outside of class and you'll be astounded by how hilarious & genuine a true scholar is!! Work hard, play hard.
Gardner is awesome and his lectures are interesting.
The readings are a bit tedious and the class can get to be quite borning, but this man is hilarious and brilliant, so it's worth it.

He is so nice. He makes the lectures funny because he relates to the students, and although some days can be trying, a lot of the time, it's pretty darn interesting.
He makes the class fun, although I think it is an interesting class anyway

Prof has very clear and concise speaking. He knows his stuff inside and out and shows very good movie clips every wednesday. The 2 papers for the class are really tricky and watch out for tough grading by the TA's. My recommendation would be to talk to your TA's beforehand and go to CLAS.
