Uses iclicker but only counts if you are correct. Two midterms and a final, both are extremely hard. If you do not study every day you will struggle I am not over exaggerating. I took this class twice and studied as hard as I could but still did not pass. When you ask for help she gets annoyed. Avoid it if you can. The hardest class I have ever had
Dr. Low is a great lecturer. The information in this class can be boring at times since it is so general, but Low really knows how to keep her students interested. Her test is very hard, the midterm average was a 64% but she curves. Book is not necessary, just really focus on the information given in class and write down everything she says.
Super entertaining teacher, love her lectures, but holy moly she crams in a lot of information in her lectures and her test is HARD. Semi impossible, even with tutoring... But the curve will save you. Pretty good professor if you ask me!
Physiology is a pretty easy subject, but she makes it HARD. She's a good teacher and she's really funny so lectures are pretty entertaining but the exams are IMPOSSIBLE. Felt prepared for the first test but walked out wanting to cry. Forget the textbook (you don't need it) and just memorize her slides!!! class ave usually F but she curves.
Personally, I LOVED Dr. Low. She is a sassy genius. Her tests will absolutely rip you a new one if you're not prepared though, so go to class, read the textbook, and have faith in the curve.
Not a helpful professor whatsoever. She laughs at her students when they ask questions. He tests have questions from topics/concepts not yet reviewed and are so difficult. Difficult to understand during lecture and has virtually no real office hours. Read the book if you have to take her class.
Get ready to read a textbook per lecture. Her lectures have a lot of information so make sure to organize your notes. All material tested was on the slides. Tests are tricky not because of the material but because of the wording of the questions and answers.
Just no. Horrible attitude to students doing poorly. RUDE during office hours. Like I know no ones perfect but really? Making fun of one doing poorly during personal office hours is wrong. Read the book, she regurgitates everything. Powerpoints include small details (one bullet point) that are on exams. Reviews do NOT lie.
Doesnt normally teach the Cell bio portion in 1A. This section was definitely the most challenging of the 3. Really look at the details and study everything on the slides. I used OneNote to highlight my slides and write up summaries when studying and it helped. Go to CLAS. Final is split between the sections, got 8/20ish right on this section.
Seng Low should NOT be teaching intro bio for PBS majors. I understand that it's a lot of material to cover, but she literally just clicks through the slides at lightning speed and doesn't even allow time for questions, and gets annoyed in the rare event someone does ask a question. She was very condescending to students. Don't recommend.
This woman will ruin your life. Shes evil. Her tests involve way too many concepts into one question and one word can make you get it wrong. Most people in this class are taking it for the second time, its only offered in fall. She doesn't care when we fail and blames us. Her averages were 57 and 62. She curves off the highest grade (85 and 93).
He is temporarily teaching this course while the normal professor is on sabbatical and he taught much more material than he was supposed to. It was ridiculous how much information he expected us to know when his slides did not match up (he used another professor's slides) and the textbook didn't even go as in depth. They better curve this class.
funny guy but you could tell right away that he wasn't prepared to teach this class - pretty all over the place. things got better but he wasn't good enough of a professor to make his exams so difficult. average was so damn low for the midterm but it was honestly okay. final was a JOKE. SO specific on barely touched topics. Biomentors couldnt help.
Prof. Low was my most difficult professor at UCSB. She is extremely difficult to understand and talks very quickly. She will mention a word in lecture and expect you to know every detail about it come test time. Lectures confused me more, but there are iclickers. Test averages are always below failing, but she curves.
He explained things well. Midterm wasn't that hard but had questions about minor details that you wouldn't think are important so the class average was really low (but if you read over the slides you would know them). Literally never went to class because lectures were online.
too much work! should be worth way more than 1 unit!!!!!!!!
She has written down on the course policies that she gives makeup exams but she doesn't. Says you can contest your grade but when I complained about a grading mistake on my practical (and I'm 100% sure), the staff refused to fix it. Reuses questions she threw out other quarters because 1/2 students got another very close answer.
negligent, incompetent, disorganized, lazy
Several videos to watch in order to take a weekly quiz, reading the lab manual before lab, a ridiculous amount of questions in the manual that you need to answer, two practicals, and a fat research project without ANY guidance and sources that hardly make sense or cover necessary material. Good luck!
Honestly I hated this class. At first I found her funny, but increasingly I got frustrated with her. The average during my quarter for midterm 1 was a 57, and for midterm 2 a 62. Her lectures move incredibly fast and are hard to follow, her class is boring. She blames the students for not succeeding and doesn't explain answers to questions.
Dr. Low knows her stuff. However, she expects the students to be just as smart as her and will not slow down, answer questions, or try to explain concepts in a different way. Basically, just be prepared for hard tests that are nothing like the practice tests. Read the book its easy but the class itself is very misleading and tricky.
Trust me, too much work for 1 unit class. Lab manual is so unorganized
He's a nice, engaging lecturer, but his exam was awful. It was way more specific than what he *or* the book covered, and I could barely understand it. Apparently, the rest of MCDB 1A didn't, either. He seems like an alright guy, but I wouldn't trust him as a substitute teacher
I'm going to come off as so extra but I swear, this is most disorganized class that I've ever taken w the most disorganized lab manual that I've ever read. The lab manual constantly has conflicting information in it, is written out of order, is so grammatically incorrect and vague, etc. yet we are graded on our knowledge of extremely specific info
