i truly loved this class- one of my favorites. It's a hard class and you have to make it a priority if you want to do well but if you're interested in nutrition its super interesting. Prof is HILARIOUS and makes lots of little jokes. all her slides go up on gauchospace so you can go back and review. She's incredibly thorough and very fair.
Material was not very hard but tests and quizzes were very tricky. The class average was extremely low but she used a bell curve. She is funny in lecture and teaches in a very clear way but her accent makes her difficult to understand sometimes.
MCDB20. favorite class. The teacher is lovely, very clear and explains well. Sections are mandatory because you get quizzed, quizzes are not too tough if you read the book and go to lecture. The slides are posted online. I got a B in the class but i could have gotten an A if i had read everything i had to. does require some time, i do recommend!
She was pretty funny in class but her tests are designed to trick you and she doesn't give study guides are anything. Definitely study off the lectures and not the book.
Generally easy class as long as you catch up the powerpoints and memorize them. Its not a lot of memorization and TA covers everything you need to know in sections.
Way too hard of a class for a GE. Difficult quizzes in section every week that everyone does poorly on. Powerpoints are online but dont help much. No study guides given. 2 midterms and cumulative final. Tests are short answer, matching, multiple choice, and true false but if its false you have yo correct it. Avoid this class take dinosaurs instead.
The class was interesting and for the most part he was able to get a lot of his points across clearly, and if not his TA's are very helpful and reliable. His lecture slides have about 80% of what you need to know the other 20% comes from attending lectures for clarity. His tests do test on a small portion of what he actually expects you to know.
Her tests were very hard. But if you studied her slides very well and read the book then you should be fine. Her lectures were pretty funny but not the most informative
I enjoyed lecture, she made the class fun! The tests were straight-forward but be sure you STUDY THE SLIDESHOWS and READ THE BOOK!! It's a lot of information to take in in such a short amount of time but if you study you'll be fine.
interesting class. 40% for each midterm and final, 10% for weekly quizzes. curved relative to the avg of top 10 scores (i think it was like 10% within that score was an A..) ended up with an 82% that was a A. lecture slides have everything you need to know.
The class was interesting, however, the professor was rude and unhelpful during office hours. Did not answer emails most of the time. In addition, did not fully answer questions during office hours, preferring to instead ask, "well do you go to lecture?" Overall an essential class, but negative experience.
Her tests are extremely poorly written. They aren't difficult, but rather very unclear. She asks ambiguous questions and even if you answer correctly, unless you give the specific response she is looking for, which is not clear, she marks you wrong. To do well on the tests, instead of learning the material, you have to learn how to take her tests.
Low is fantastic. Originally, I was scared to take class with her because of what I read on here, but I shouldn't have worried. She's been one of my fav's so far. Don't read the book. EVERYTHING you need to know is on the slides and stuff she says in class. Print out the slides & you're good!
She is really funny and interesting to hear lecture, but I think people are confusing that for a good professor. I like her lectures, but I dont get what I need out of them. She leaves a huge amount out, assuming we somehow already know. Also her tests are brutal- not so much what she asks but how, very difficult wording.
Good interesting lectures, she has a natural ability to hold your attention even when talking about complicated concepts, I find some of the other MCDB lecturers a bit monotonous but Lowe is one of the cooler ones and really funny.
Memorize the lecture slides and just use the book as reference. The first part of the class was much easier than the second half, so be prepared for a tough final (thank god it's not cumulative). It's an interesting class and crucial for the mcat
she is interesting and good at lecturing, but the tests are extremely hard. has fill-in problems on the midterms, tough
Very good teacher. Cares a lot about her students, which shows in lecture and in section. Great advice for grad/med school as well. Great sense of humor!
By far the best lecturer in the MCDB department! The videos she puts up are really helpful, and she is great to talk to 1 on 1. She is hilarious & made micro interesting and really fun. I would take another class with her if offered :D
best mcdb ever
Best class ever and awesome lecturer. Prof. Smith is approachable and very help during office hours. Class involves a lot of memorizations and his tests were long. Quizzes in section every week so don't fall behind. Physiology is an awesome class, but too bad there's no lab.
She's HILARIOUS! Her lecture slides her clear and she explains things more than once so that you can understand the concept the second time. Her videos are helpful, too. It makes understanding the mechanisms much easier. She emails back quickly and makes microbiology fun!
Tough, hard to understand. Tests are very hard. Took during summer, very fast, wish I had waited until normal year.
A relatively easy yet interesting class, her method of lecturing and clear explanation made me warm up to a subject I generally avoid. By far the best science general ed.
