Carter will put topics or problems that we haven’t learned about in lecture on our homework and tests consistently. Do not take this class unless you’re willing to work hours on end trying to teach yourself.

He is the worst prof I have ever met, worse than Ravat. I really don't understand why UCSB would hire a professor like that, who doesn't teach at all. He's very lazy, doesn't care about students, and doesn't answer emails at all. His lectures are difficult to understand because there is no logic. Seriously, he should get out of here right now.

His lecutres are hard to follow so expect to hit the ground running asap. His homework are super hard and he will tell you it is harder than the exams therefore do good on your homework and midterm and final will be a breeze. I procrastinated alot and still did better than majority of the class. He's a good professor overall.

Carter taught 207A very well and was decently enthusiastic about the subject. However, the class was a lot of work: the homeworks can be downright brutal and occupied most of my time during the week. Plus the exams were difficult: the final was only 5 questions and took me 4.5 hours to finish. Although I think that's good preparation for the quals.

Prof. Carter knows his stuff, and is able to breakdown complex ideas into small bite sizes. Carter lectures are amazing, and provided plenty of resources to succeed. However, Carters slide always have a typos, and he very temperamental. The homework assignment were difficult, and exams were tough . Carter isnt a push over.

Do not take this class with Carter. Exams were difficult, low averages, but still refused to curve the class or even bump up borderline grades. Super strict gradings, 0 partial credit. Never responded to emails, ghosted students after final grades were on gold. 122 is supposed to be one of the easier classes and he made it hell.

Professor Carter is a nice guy, but the lectures were extremely conceptual and hard to follow. Home works are also quite difficult. Virtually no partial credits were given on exams especially on the Final. Zero communication to students after the Final, no curves were given despite low Final average. Overall, it was a terrible experience.

He's not the best in STATS department, but his course is takeable if there ain't other options. His lectures can be hard to follow sometimes, especially when he goes back and forth between the slides. He does this a lot, which make it hard to focus! Homework and exams are of reasonable workload.

Carter clearly doesn't care if his students succeed. He didn't make himself accessible out of class at all. The Thursday before the final, he informed us that he wouldn't be holding additional office hours nor would he be responding to emails. Lectures were confusing and not well structured. Partial credit was promised on exams but was not awarded.

Carter is one of the best lecturers in the stats department. His lecture slides may be simple but his explanations in lecture are coherent, sensible and easy to understand. Labs are straightforward without too much R complexity.

He's definitely knowledgable and passionate about the classes he teaches, but as a lecturer he is terrible. Lots of tangent stuff and confusing to follow. Notes provided are mostly r codes with no documentations that does not provide much info. Grading is also a bit on the harsh side. Benefits: has practice final and resubmission chance for report.

A little tough to follow at lecture but he follows up with clear homework and fair test usually like the homework, never harder. Really could improve his clarity at lecture sometime, but runs a very fair course

Carter is clearly passionate about the subject, but sometimes the lectures felt a bit fragmented and hard to follow. Study the practice tests and fill out your cheat sheet fully and you will do fine. If you are passionate about stats, definitely take this course and go to office hours, Carter is very knowledgable and friendly.

I missed the submission about the HW1 just because my network lost connection, then I forget to check. When I find out, it was already 12 days pass due. I begged him that please give me a make up chance, because I did a lot for that HW, I even went to night office hour and ask the TA. That HW is 6% of my grade. He just doesn't want to talk to me.

Drew is a good professor. Seasoned lecturer and clearly explains the material. Textbook definitely helps on the homework, assignments and tests are fair. He posts a very simple version of his notes online but ultimately attending class is worth doing. I would absolutely take another class of his. He's also sort of handsome in a nerd way.

I've had Carter twice now and he's a great teacher. He's brilliant and makes the lectures interesting however, its hard to relate some of his lectures to the book's material. Theres a solid amount of homework but overall its worth 35% (which is more than the midterm) so if you put in the work, its a solid grade booster.

I had Carter for both PSTAT 122 and PSTAT 175 in the same quarter, and he is honestly a really great professor. He makes the material and the homework straightforward and engaging. There is a midterm and a final and homework/R assignments. Easy A if you go to lecture and put in effort. Highly recommend him.

I am so glad that I took 126 with Prof. Carter in spring 2015. He is super organized and he gives clear definitions and examples in class. Homework/lab assignments count for 50% of the course grade so you are expected to put consistent effort in the class. I will take more classes with him for sure.

Once of the best professors here at UCSB. He lectures with such clarity and finesse. His exams are very fair and homework is not bad at all. Do all the homework and study guides and you will do well in this class. Textbook is not very useful and he uses clearer notation.

I suggest to not take this class online at all. We went through the entire book in 6 weeks without anytime to spare. The hw was not too bad( some difficult problems-to be expected) and well his final was not to bad. But if I had more time, I would have better. But just be prepared to stay on top of things and DO NOT procrastinate.

The structure of the course needs to change. I feel like I was writing things down on paper to get points rather than learning the material as the grading is harsh. I wish there were more practice problem that would help us understood the material better rather than challenging problems where we need to think outside the box every time.

Professor Carter is aggressively unhelpful. His online course doesn't provide you with the resources to succeed. Homework is 30% of your grade and they are graded incredibly hard, usually returned covered in red pen, yet with no explanation why. Carter is apathetic, and unwelcoming, however, he does speak english.

The guy is smart and speaks clearly but his online class was so screwed up that I felt that I had to drop. 1. You can't talk to the professor using the webcam service he uses for office hours. 2. Every assignment is meticulously graded, must have you full name on it, and be in a pdf format. I love stats, so this is really hard for me. Avoid!
