Joseph is an engaging lecturer. His classes are organized and well thought out and he spells out what you need to do to be successful in his class from day one. He expects a lot, but I think that it prepares you for future upper-divs that ask more from students. If you put the time and effort in you will learn a lot!
easiest professor for chem 1a. I dont think I wouldve passed if I had taken another professor. I literally did the barest of barest minimum and still passed. maybe it helped that I remembered stuff from highschool chem. office hours are very helpful, just attend them.
Overall very nice professor. However, his quizzes and exams are way harder than other professor's exams. He now is teaching chem 1b and put both his Price's previous quiz questions. I can do almost all right with Professor Price's exam, but only half correct with his questions!!! All I can say is that the exams are very very hard.
I came into this course having only took IB chem sophomore yr of high school. I had trouble keeping up during lectures because he went pretty fast. Lots of topics are glossed over in lecture so reading is mandatory especially in the later chapters (12/13). Exams are concept based, don't rely on practice midterms.
Came in with very little chem experience. No AP Chem and this class crushed me. Quarter system already going 100 miles per hour and he would just skip over things easily because of time. Worked really hard, hours on top of hours. Do not even like chem it even a little bit and wanted to pass for my major but nope got a D- so I switched. Good luck!
Really tough teacher, pretty unforgiving of absences, but lecture is very helpful and clear. DO THE BOOK PROBLEMS. He reuses test questions so be very sure you understand every midterm question for the final. He also uses book problems on the tests so make sure you understand ALL of them. This class isn't impossible but it is very hard.
He is a great lecturer and is very clear about what he expects from his students. The course had a heavy workload but I felt adequately prepared for his quizzes and tests. He speaks loud and clear and is an all-around good choice for your first quarter of chem.
He is a nice teacher! The class is easy. Test and quiz are not hard. The only thing I dislike is the Online homework
He gives really informative lectures, and his tests are more conceptual rather than problem based. He's really accessible outside of class too! I was in his office at least once a week for Chem 1C. He takes the time to help his students and has opened up extra office hours to give everyone the opportunity to ask questions.
Dr. Joseph was awesome on explaining chem stuffs, but the homework on Aleks was a lot&boring. If u did SAT chem/AP chem this class would be fairly easy. Practice problems on textbook & previous exams with work-out help a lot so do these. Lectures worth attending if u are not sure about anything, as he's super helpful & amazing!
Professor Joseph is the BEST of all the Gen Chem professors, and I've taken Price too. I've never read the book, and his slides were so comprehensive, I still managed to pull a respectable grade. He's very clear with expectations, and he's very available outside of class to answer any lingering questions. He's always ON THE MONEY!
Amazing professor.
don't be dazzled by his easy-going lecture styles, u will receive a B+ for 90% of the overall performance
DO THE BOOK PROBLEMS AND PRACTICE TESTS!! they help so much more than aleks, and he reuses the book problems and changes the numbers on tests. and on the final, you'll see so many reused problems from the past quizzes and midterms. his lectures are clear if you're familiar with the topics he'll be talking about so do some book problems before class
Joesph is an incredible teacher that clearly explains everything if you pay attention in lecture. It is pivotal to do every book problem and truly understand them. Terri was very helpful in clas. He reuses a tons of exact questions from the book to previous tests on his exams and final. If you do this you should be able to do every test problem.
Tests are easier than Kunkel, read the book, do book problems, practice exams.
Really nice guy and always willing to help students out. His quizzes and exams always reflect what was covered in lecture and books problems. I highly recommend that you do the reccommended book problems for each chapter, and you'll do well on the quizzes and exams.
I have taken both Price and Joseph, and in my opinion they're both at the same level of lecturing. Joseph is a great professor, he explains everything clearly, and he's really caring and funny. Such a nice guy! The only difference is Joseph's tests are a bit more tricky at times, but not by much :) DO BOOK PROBLEMS!
Joseph reminds me of Papa Bear from the Berenstain Bears,,, for some reason. He is very passionate about his class, YET make sure to do the practice quizzes, and i can't stress this enough, BOOK PRBLMS!! and yeah you''l be fine,, idk how people don't like him id say he's definitely at Price's level
His lectures are super useful and easy to follow and he is genuinely helpful when you go in for office hours. I would happily take chem with him again.
Dr. Joseph is an amazing at explaining class materials. The tests are not so hard as long as you truly understand the basic concepts. I would definitely recommend his lecture.
Joseph is an amazing lecturer, and a cool guy as well. I honestly don't think he was any easier than Kunkel considering she taught him how to teach. His tests were just as brutal as hers. Anyway, do the book problems when they're assigned. They help way more than ALEKS does in terms of test prep.
Joseph is a solid choice for Chem 1A. His tests are easier than the other professors', especially Kunkel's. I found that you can't be successful in the class by just going to his lectures, sometimes I felt like he rushed the material or didn't explain it deep enough. But if you do the book problems, ALEKS, and CLAS then you'll get a good grade.
He's pretty rigorous. Very clear about the class but still a hard prof than other Chem 1A's (compare to my friends'). Maybe try someone else's for your grade's sake
