He only gives out multiple choice and his tests are very difficult.
I was stuck on a problem, no one could help me, I desperately posted on the forum for help and after no one responded, i emailed the teacher. within just a few hours he responded on how to solve the problem clearly but without just giving me the answer. He has many tests from past years to help you study and overall tries to help you succeed.
Love crisjoe but chem 1b is so bad. You can tell he really loves chem and loves teaching. He's super easy to talk to and doesn't make you feel dumb for not understanding something. He loves to take old test questions and just change the numbers slightly so the practice tests really help. Final isn't too bad either
Crisjoe is an excellent lecturer who explains concepts clearly. His tests are challenging, so stay on top of the recommended textbook problems and practice exams. Unstuckstudy AI was a lifesaver for preparing - highly recommend combining it with the other study tips.
Joseph really does care about his students. He wants us to feel confident in chemistry and acknowledges how hard the material is. Huge emphasis on book problems, which I did not really enjoy. I recommend him especially if you have good foundational chem knowledge from high school (he builds off AP Chem well). Final's hard, midterms are moderate.
Crisjoe is by far the best lecturer in the chemistry series. However, his tests are the hardest. I have sylvester now and joseph has everything SO organized. I am still watching his youtube lectures for 1c. WATCH THEM. before each lecture and as a review. He is so caring, understanding, and kind. Everyone loves Crisjoe! Tough class
Huge tip: Watch the lecture vids and take notes before class, then go to lecture and just listen to him talk while annotating. Exams are very difficult and require you to not just know HOW to do every problem but to actually know WHY you are doing it. If you do all book probs and practice tests + pay attention in class you'll do great.
Chem 1B is a hard class but Joseph makes it very easy to manage. He has very clear lectures and posts slides for every single chapter. There are 2 midterms and a final, with the lowest midterm replaced by the final if it helps you. He's the best general chem teacher in my opinion.
GOAT. Do the ALEKS! It will do nothing but help your grade and help you learn the content. Do his book problems, they will prepare you for the exams! Joesph is a fantastic lecturer and just a fantastic guy generally.
I had Joseph for 1A and 1B, and he was a great professor for both! He has a way of explaining concepts in the easiest way to understand. Chem is hard no matter who you have, but Joseph is def the best. Like 1A, his 1B tests are heavy on book and practice test problems, so study those well. Would've gotten an A if i didn't bomb the final lol
i took joseph for 1A and 1B and the class is obviously hard but you can tell joseph genuinely wants everyone to do well. i really like his lecture style and also just think he's a good person as well as prof. while chem is hard i believe the grade you get in his class reflects the work you put into it and i would recommend joseph 100%
BEWARE...
Perfect professor, if you see him you must choose him.
Good lecturer, explains things well and is open to any questions. Do the recommended textbook practice problems!!!!! ALL of them. He basically chooses from those to create the exams. Be prepared for thermodynamics, which is a tough unit. Recycles some most commonly missed questions on midterms on the final. Time yourself on the practice exams.
Hes a decent teacher. Do not slack off on ALEKS. CLAS was extremely helpful for understanding the material, cant recommend it enough. I failed this course due to falling behind on homework, but i did feel confident on understanding the concepts. (And I did much better retaking it!)
Very clear and straightforward. Lectures and practice tests are available online.
Lectures and practice tests are available online. He is very clear and straightforward with the course content and grading. Would recommend you take him. 1B is difficult though, make sure to do practice problems.
Professor Joseph is very kind and seems to really care about his students. However, his tests are significantly harder than some of the other professors in the chem department, like Price. If you even hope to pass his class you 100% have to do the book problems and all of the Aleks. The exams are not that similar to the practice exams.
I did all the recommended book probs and practice tests and scored high on midterms but performed significantly worse on the final. I got A grades in CHEM 1AB though, so I would say his exams vary too much. Fortunately, people enjoy how animated he is as a professor like in his intros. Additionally, his lecture quality is not bad, so go to class!
I think he is an all round good professor to take Chem with as his tests and lectures are very straightforwards. The unfortunate thing is that the final is the most important thing for your grade. It sucked how since the 1st midterm average was so high, he had to make the next 2 tests extra hard to bring the average down. Don't procrastinate.
If you are taking gen chem. TAKE JOSEPH. His tests are taken from book problems and he gives plenty of practice test. He does not try and trick you on the test, as long as you put in the work to study you'll be fine. He posts lectures that are really helpful and clear. Definitely the best gen chem professor.
1B is just a difficult class in general, but joseph tried to make the class as easy as possible. Really only based on ALEKs and the midterms, DO THE BOOK PROBLEMS!! There are a lot that he recommends to do, but if you dont do them, the tests will be impossible. The book problems are a great indicator to see what you really need to study
I had this professor for chem 1b during winter quarter 2023. His tests are unnecessarily difficult and I found his explanation of the material to be too complicated & hard to understand. Would recommend to take this class with another professor. Did not pass the class and am currently retaking with another professor.
If you want to succeed in this class, you'll need to set aside a couple of hours to studying every week. This class is by no means impossible, and I found the material to be easier than that in Chem 1A. Do the book problems!! He doesn't stress it enough, and I can't either. They will show up on tests. Understand the solutions, and you'll be okay :D
