Wonderful professor! Concise, straightforward, and fair. Some might say the subject is difficult regardless of who's teaching, but not with Price. This man truly allowed me to grasp basic general chemistry in 10 weeks. Plus, the organization and time management of his lectures was phenomenal. Looking forward to 1B with him!
CHEM 1A is a hard class regardless of who you take the course with, but if you're going to take it with anyone Dr. Price is great. His tests are as fair as they come and his lectures are straight to the point. Lectures alone won't help you get a good grade, but as long as you put in the work (book problems!!) you'll see great results. CURVE IS HUGE
Dr. Price, by far is the most invested and fair teacher I've ever had. His midterms covered everything that was either discussed in the lecture or in the book problems. Even if there were questions that confused me, it was never unfamiliar or completely unseen. Make sure to do book problems before diving into the practice exams!
God is real and it is Price. Nothing will humble you quicker than chem at UCSB, but Price is your best bet at making it out alive. His lectures are clear and concise and he is VERY straightforward about how to succeed in his class. Do the book problems and the practice exams and you will be fine. I got As on all of the midterms from that.
Gen chem is hard(!!), but Scott was wonderful and made up for it. He's clear with his expectations, organized, posts lecture videos and power points, and makes lecture enjoyable. Do book problems if you want to succeed, and the lowest midterm is dropped (there's 3 in total).
Chem is a hard class, but Scott Price is a ray of light in this sea of darkness. I owe this man my life. Lecture is like a gentle kiss on the forehead. I will never go back to a Joseph class, those are like a punch in the nose compared to Price.
- One of the best professors you can take for gen chem - In-person lectures + recorded lectures makes keeping up with the material doable - 3 midterms (lowest dropped), ALESK, & final make up your grade (curve at the end) - Book problems are a must do to do well in the class - Helpful over email + office hours - An A is very possible!
Compared to the other chem profs, Price is about as decent of a choice as you can get (at least in the gen chem series). Overall, I didn't resent going to his lectures; he is very organized and determined to make the material clear. Book problems are definitely a must when preparing for exams, so don't take him if you don't want that.
Chem 1a is a difficult class but Price is one of the best choices. His lectures are great, and his midterms are the easiest of the bunch.
Good chem professor and a total cutie. Always made class worth going to
Price was a great prof for chem 1a. Textbook is super useful for book problems; it's available online for free so don't waste your $. Join CLAS! And attend all of the lectures as the information he teaches is what's on the midterms. Lowest exam gets dropped!
While this class was really difficult, Price gave great lectures and was very clear about the subject. Textbook problems are necessary if you want to pass this class. The midterms were pretty difficult but with a lot of studying a high grade is definitely possible. The final was rough though despite lots of studying but he curves the overall grade.
good at making chemistry somewhat understandable! lectures (< the online videos) are very straightforward and clear to follow. prepare to put effort to pass and study heavily on doing the practice tests and book problems since he pulls similar questions from there. it's a difficult subject, but he makes learning it as simple as possible!
Good professor. Out of all the CHEM1A midterms/final, Price's was, in my opinion, the easiest and the shortest. I work better on my own pace so I just looked at the recorded lectures. 20% of grade comes from ALEKS which is an easy grade booster.
Lectures very fast so instead I watched his online lectures where I could control the speed. Very good explainer, except for quantum numbers IMO. Avg. for midterms was 60, 60, 64 final curve 15% People who say do textbook problems are studying inefficiently: his midterms are identical to his practice tests so just drill those. Start aleks early!
Although I did not pass chem, Price was an excellent teacher. He prepares you for the tests and the rest is up to you to prepare yourself. If you want to pass this class you have to study on your own time! You will not pass if you do not go out of your way to prepare to pass.
Doctor Price is amazing. His lectures go a little fast but they are always clear and interesting and he takes time to answer questions during lecture and is always available outside of class. His midterms aren't too difficult. His final was slightly harder than the midterms but it was a still a fair exam.
Arguably the best CHEM 1A professor, but still a difficult class nonetheless. Read the book, do the optional questions, show up to lecture and you'll pass. The final was overly difficult but it seems like that was an issue with all the professors.
Prof price is easily the best chem professor at ucsb. Do book problems and go to lectures, I wouldve gotten a higher grade if I did. Lectures are amazing, he moves fast but is very concise with explanations. Final was very challenging though.
Great lectures but tests are difficult
Coming into the infamous gen chem series I was extremely worried from all of the horror stories but Professor Price was an amazing teacher and his lectures were clear and concise. Based on other classes, I'd say Professor Price is your best bet for Chem 1A. Still not an easy class, but if you put the work in it will show in your test grades.
Best chem professor at UCSB... nothing else to it!
The best chem prof at ucsb! Explains concepts so well, and really cares about students doing well in class. Tests are fair and you'll do well if you do ALEKS, book problems (pretty crucial!) and practice exams. His lectures went by so fast because he makes chemistry interesting and does lots of practice problems.
Took Price for CHEM 1A, and I loved him. He moved fast but definitely taught well and was clear. Also pretty funny sometimes. 10/10 would take again
