Hands down, best professor I've had at UCSB. His lectures are clear, concise, and interesting. I genuinely felt going to lecture was worthwhile and that I gained something by going. I love history, but I guarantee if you don't you'll still enjoy this class, maybe even change your mind! In other words: take HIST17B with Majewski!
Professor Majewski is one of the best teacher's I've had at UCSB. I had him during winter quarter and it was an 8am. His lectures were so interesting that I went to every single 8am, even though it was winter quarter and cold/rainy! His class changed my view on history and now I'm minoring it it! Definitely take one of his classes!!

I love Majewski! I wasn't too excited about 17B but he definitely changed that. Lectures are very organized and very interesting, you can tell he loves what he does, and readings were really interesting. No midterm, two papers were definitely doable. Majewski is amazing!
Prof Majewski is tighttttt dooo!!!!!!! This essays are graded by this by his TAs and can be graded pretty hard. But my boi Majewski is off the hook
he's such a great professor. his lectures are well thought out and make sense. class is very interesting and the iclicker makes it more interactive. his special lecture was very fun! i highly recommend this class to both non-hist. majors and hist. majors! take it, you'll have a blast!
CLEAREST prof I've had yet, amazing lecturer, take a class with him if you get the chance. He's kind of funny in a nerdy way. I had a good TA-- Rachel, but you definitely have to go in to office hours to get help because the essays are graded pretty hard. Really easy to prepare for the final. Take this class!
An amazing lecturer, but differences between TAs are a significant factor in your grade. he made history a lot more interesting to me
Majewski is the man! Best lecturer i have had in my brief college career! i highly recommend his class, especially when pertaining to the civil war era.
He is an amazing teacher. Too bad your entire grade is based on your TA. Unless you get a good TA this class is horrible. It is not a test of how much history you learned it is how well your TA likes your writing.
must attend certain lectures for iclicker points = it helps your grade! ($40 for it though) hardly attended lecture otherwise. majewski is CLEAR. has some slides online. 2 5-pg essays=go to TA for help. in this large class, having a good TA is important-i had robinson. be sure to attend section for points. essay final=prepare well. good prof!!
Really good history teacher. Class is interesting especially with i-clicker. Advice would be to not get stuck with Dmitri as your TA. A lot of reading is involved so be prepared if you don't like history.
Majewski has a very clear way of presenting his powerpoints. You have to go to certain lectures and bring an iClicker to certify that you were there. Two 6-page essays and a final in essay form. Try to get a TA that is an easy grader if you're not good at history.
Lectures were interesting. The exam topics were long and difficult to build a clear thesis. Class could've been structured better. But history is history.
He is very knowledgable and passionate about the subject. Class grade is solely based on your TA, easy because my TA was an easy grader. Papers and final pretty easy because he asks you questions about things you have covered extensively in lecture or readings. The primary documents are pretty helpful, but the textbook was not needed.
His class was ok. I didn't enjoy it too much, I dont understand why people think he's incredible. He's a pretty good teacher but I think the material was really extensive. You have yo do readings every week that you need to write and discuss about in discussion. I spent a lot of my time on this class!
I love Majewski!! The class is hard because the TAs grade the papers harshly (but i think they purposely graded the first one harder to scare us) but i think they graded us pretty easily on the final. Majewski is adorable and all his little jokes make me laugh. he's very likeable.
Lectures very well done: organized clearly, main points are reiterated multiple times, easy to follow, take notes on, and study from. Speaking style is clear as well, nothing is left to the imagination. Overall a very high quality professor. Highly recommended.
I was not interested in History whatsoever before taking this class, but I loved it. There are two papers so that sucked but overall the class was interesting and Majewski is a great professor. I would totally take another class with him. Make sure you get a good TA, cause that's where you're grade is.
go to lecture, i didn't do half of the reading and I still got a B. 2 essays and a final...just don't get a bad TA
His lectures are clear and easy to follow. The reading is also really easy to understand, and there isn't really all that much. Theres no midterm, but two essays. And he gives you all the questions beforehand for the final, so as long as you prepare, you'll do just fine.
I hated history before taking this class. Prof. Majewski is an awesome professor, I definetly recommend taking his class. The papers aren't too hard but the final is, so make sure you go to class and take lots of notes. He puts the slides online and there is no midterm.
I really enjoyed this class. Took this class to full requirements, and I'm really glad i took it! He made his class easy to follow along. The powerpoints were a huge help, and really talked to make sure you understood the topic. Readings were interesting...High recommend Professor Majewski! Tests/papers easy to understand. (P.S...I got an A-!) :-D
Great lecturer. Speaks very clearly, goes slow, and has great powerpoints which he also posts online. I hate history and I enjoyed this class.
