Called a girl in my group a Burra. Appears to be at least the second time she has done this.
She is inconsistent not only across assignments but students as she has clear favoritism issues. She also seemed to grade based on feelings and not an objective standard. Also had to ask multiple questions and speak about my exams to get any type of reason as to why points were docked.
While I got a good grade in the class this professor was discriminative and chose favorites. She put others down when she disagreed or let her personal opinions get in the way. She would call people out during and after class for obscene things making students feel degraded and helpless. She also would grade very subjectively rather than objective.
I had a fever and got a doctor's note the day before class. She said it counted for the day it was written and expected to see me in class. I showed up to class coughing with a fever. Though I never missed a class, she gave me a C for participation. Lectures went off track, and grading was not clear. However, she is passionate about the material.
Profesora Gonzales-Smith is a wonderful professor. Sometimes she can get off track, but her intentions and appreciation for the topics are lovely. Three big group projects, no midterm or final. Grading gives good comments, TA advice is helpful, attending lectures is vital.
Favoritism explains good reviews. Students were afraid to speak up. Worst class/ prof I have taken, harder than toughest STEM courses. Called my groupmate a burra, changed past grades, gave unclear directions, and gaslit concerns. Gave me F on test, then a B when I asked to see. Gave diff grades for same work to people. Lied to my face. Dishonest.
1. instructions were confusing and spread across any documents. We had to jump through hoops and ask a million questions to get points. 2. lectures were tedious 3. I didn't learn much about Spanish literature If you have to take this class for a requirement, you can muster through. But take another prof if you have the option.
Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss iykyn
She would gaslight her students. Did not explain the material being taught and would assign excess materials to go over. If students would ask questions she would get upset they did not already know the answer. It was not a safe environment to learn in. Overall, the courses consisted of 3 group projects.
Unnecessary work made this class fast-paced. Movie, readings and practice to do before Tuesday every week that wouldn't tie to anything, and tests combined into group projects. Important group projects, hard to get a good grade unless the project was pretty and everyone put in a lot of work. Gaucho Space was highly emphasized but hard to navigate.
S20. Amongst the circumstances of the quarter, Profesora Gonzales-Smith was very accommodating. She shortened her lectures after a few weeks, made sure to give us longer windows for the midterms, and was very accessible to us. She's funny, witty, lots of personality! She is very direct, though. Go to her to get clarifications! Readings a must.
While it was easy to get an A in this class, all of the lectures were unengaging and substanceless. Lecture felt like a waste of time; I basically used nothing that I learned in lecture on any of my exams. The professor is irrationally particular about certain things. I would not recommend this class, but spanish majors have to take it.
nicest lady ever. Class feels super hectic the first few weeks of class because she is so disorganized, but the work is not too challenging. Quizzes, midterms, and the final are all online so it's definitely easy to finesse an A in this class. You also learn a lot of pretty interesting stuff, although her lectures can feel like an eternity.
Called me a “burra”. Very rude and although slightly considerate, still very unprofessional calling a student “burra” and the rest of the Faculty calling that her diligence. Toxic.
She may have been a little harsh in the past but I think she did it because she cares for her students and wants the best for us. She is so much more accommodating now and quite honestly really funny. I have never met a more compassionate professor. That is why I have taken over 7 different courses with her. Don't listen to bad reviews.
Took this class and learned so much that I have been able to apply what I learned to other courses for the Spanish major. Very accommodating but you need to communicate with her if not she won't be able to help you. Textbooks and novels are used in class but you can find them for free online. Section for this class is super helpful!
Professor Myriam was amazing, her class is pretty hard but I learned so much. As long as you show you are making an effort she will notice! If you are having a hard time she is always accessible in office hours etc. Also get to know her! shes funny
Too much work assigned for a GE class with very specific instructions. Expects full time dedication to the class, not considering the circumstances we are living in. Caring professor but it's not worth the amount of work, stress, and requirements for a GE. Would not recommend.
Winter 2020 / Professor Myriam was somewhat disorganized, and the prompts for writing assignments and group projects were confusing, but she was very accessible through email and office hours to clarify. The exams were straightforward and directly covered the topics she outlines. Don't underestimate the work and take it serious, she notices!
Prof. Myriam is amazing. Her class can be challenging at times but I learned so much. She requires participation in class and for students to take the class seriously. She is always available if you need more help with assignments since she's pretty strict with her guidelines. Work hard and she will notice. Get to know her- very funny!
Great professor, would definitely recommend taking her courses.
She gave me a D after I thought I was going to pass. I felt like she gave me that grade on purpose. She's really rude in class and favoritism amongst her students . There needs to be a different teacher for this class because she is definitely not for the culture.
Myriam is not for everybody. Personally, she gave me that LatinX mom feel. Very caring and wants you to succeed. Just follow her directions, since they can be very specific, and you will do great. If confused go to office hours, willing to clarify everything! Would give a lot of feedback on my test answers but always almost gave me full points.
Super awesome and sweet professor! She makes her expectations very clear and in class she emphasizes what she wants you to know for exams. Almost daily homework that includes both reading and written work, but it's all in small chunks (only up to 2 pgs of reading per class). Encouraging; you can tell she wants you to succeed!
