If you are an EEMB student and have never had a class with Dr. Hofmann, you are missing out. One of the greatest professors I have ever had. Super funny, helpful, and knowledgeable.
Best bio professor I've had at UCSB! She makes lectures so fun and interesting and she is just hilarious. Even though class was at 8am, she made me look forward to going every time. Definitely take her courses!
Very clear and loves what he teaches. Lecture slides have little information on them but that's all you really need to know. Midterm was very easy and he reuses test questions
Hofmann is very clear during lectures and as long as you attend you will do well. She is very understanding if you talk to her and are making an effort to learn. You can tell she loves what she does and is trying to make a difference in the world.
a very cool professor. she had a great sense of humor and really tried to help out on test hints. her final was incredibly easy and if you go to lecture you'll be fine. i didn't read the text book because she didn't take much out of it. i would love to take another class taught by her.
very nice guy. he had a good sense of humor and joked about the fact that none of us were actually interested in plants. his test for the midterm and final were relatively easy. just a lot of memorization for all sections of the class. i would definately like to take another class from him. oh and he takes A LOT out of the text book so read!
not a hard class, its plain memorization...his quizzes are like his tests and he recycles questions.
She is so cool! Really cares about her students. Although I never went to office hours, her wonderful personality shined during lecture. She's fun, interesting, entertaining, &hilarious! The material for the test wasn't too bad,she wasn't tricky or anything. even though its at the end of the quarter, you should go to class, you'll like it bc of her.
Ive never seen a man so interested in plants as much as Hodges,it's really cute. The way he presents himself during lecture is quite feminine.Hes a pretty good teacher, even though the material was really boring but at least it was Finkelstein! His tests arent that bad but make sure u know the specific dates and time period of when each plant evolved
Loved her. By far the best intro biology teacher. I was sad when i couldn't make it to class. Great teacher, and extremely energetic about the subject she taught. A great way to end the lower division bio classes.
She is funny, tells great stories, and she loves sushi. She lectures on stage barefoot and is overall very fun.
loved her, best teacher of the intro biology series in my opinion, cant wait to take her other classes!
This professor is really great. she is super nice and her lectures and tests are straightfoward.
I hate plants and never liked them, but Hodges made it alot easier to understand them. Although he throws a lot of material on his lecture slide, it is not hard to follow along if you do the readings before hand. Overall, he made the class exciting and a learning experience for me. He is defintely one of the better bio professors I've had.
He seems like a good teacher when the class starts and his lectures are fairly interesting; his tests, on the other hand, have nothing to do with anything that he teaches. I never missed a lecture or CLAS tutorial, I did the assigned reading / studied lecture slides, etc., and his test was absurd and NOTHING like what you would expect.
class is really great. he is VERY enthusiastic about plants. good professor. very clear.
She is hilarious, one of the best teachers I've had. She had me crying laughing one time. She makes class really interesting, I love inverts!!!
He's interesting and nice, but the material is just hard, which is why the tests are sooo difficult. He's very clear when he speaks.
I had Professor Marsh over the Summer 2025 quarter and actually really enjoyed attending her lectures. She has a great vibe, gives out snacks when you participate, and provides plenty of hints for what material to focus on when studying.
She is so sweet! Would def take a class with her again. She also gives you so many assignments to get your grades up and extra credit as well.
Marsh is my fav prof I have ever had. I took EEMB7 during summer at 8 am, and it was clear she really understood the struggle of having to learn a 10 week course in 6 weeks. She uploaded practice exams on Canvas for us, had her TA run review sessions the day before exams, & was really receptive to feedback. Really kind & caring professor overall.
She was great, tests were rough tho. She gives practice exams that are mostly mc just for the tests to be free response. Everything could and will be on the test so study everything. There are a lot of topics in this class, so make flashcards or something to try and keep up with all the vocab and concepts.
very nice professor for the last half of the quarter. makes things very clear and tells you straight up what she will be testing on. explains things pretty well and connects it to relevant topics. brings snacks to encourage participation and is very enthusiastic about this topic and her field of study :-)
Dr. Marsh is a great professor and I took her for EEMB 120 and EEMB 138 in the spring of 2025. She is very kind and cares a lot about the success of her students. As long as you go to class, it is easy to get an A in her courses, since she makes it very clear what to expect on exams. She doesn't record lectures unfortunately
