Super nice, wrote everything out by hand on the board which was great, curved the crap out of the class at the end which saved me

He is extremely helpful and wants you to do well in the course. He was always eager to hear constructive criticism in order to take steps to make the course better also, which says a lot. Probably my best professor at UCSB and he is still a new professor and only going to get better!

Lectures are not mandatory. Midterms and final are not too hard.

Matt Porter is the coolest/cutest. He's so nice and willing to help. He explains everything clearly. And his math jokes are so adorable. I normally hate math but I loved this class because of him.

Really straightforward guy, knew what he was talking about. I always left section with a stronger understanding of the subject and a more calm and collected self because of it. Good with questions, I wasn't afraid to approach him, even if I didn't have a specific question.

Matt is by far the best math professor on campus. His lectures are clear and concise, and his tests follow his lecture examples and homework problems closely. Wish I had him for all my other math classes

I normally hate my math TAs at this school but Matt Porter was awesome and very helpful. Got an A in a tough math class and I believe Matt Porter was a significant reason for this

He explained some concepts clearly, but others were just difficult to understand even after explaining.

Matt is the man! I'm not sure if I learned more from his teaching or his beard... Probably the beard. Great teacher though!

Great TA. He can communicate math to students much more clearly than other math TAs. Was very helpful in office hours, and you can tell he enjoys teaching students.

Matt is so patient and so helpful. He always took the time to go through problems step by step until it was clear to the students. He had nor problem putting in extra hours to help students as well. He is an asset to any educational department.

Matt was a great TA. The professor that quarter was new, so his lectures were unorganized, vague, and not very helpful. Matt, however, was always willing to clarify everything and practically retaught the lesson. He communicated well with the class, was approachable, and even held extra office hours if needed.
