Very disorganized. Overcomplicate concepts in an intro class. The experiments she design barely match lectures. Has a lot of attitudes. Practicals are hard to study for. She really doesn't deserve this job.
Although this was not my favorite subject in the intro Bio series, Evens made this class a lot more interesting. His lectures weren't boring and he was one of my favorite professors so far!
Amazing professor, really cares about how he presents himself. He doesnt just read off of the lecture slides, he engages, and constantly reviews things before beginning the new lecture. Honestly considered switching to ecology just so I could have him as a professor again.
He made even the most boring material seem interesting. I would highly recommend going to lecture; he is very good at explaining things that may not be clear on the lecture slides. The book isn't necessary; everything you need to know is learned in lecture.
Really interesting class and awesome professor. He posts his slides online but most of your notes will come from his actual lecture so make sure you attend class. Midterm and Final weren't bad at all, but make sure you attend section.
I'm no science person but I plan to take another class with him. He's funny and his lectures are amazing( the accent helps). Midterm final and section make up your grade but it's an easy GE. He teaches you things that you SHOULD know. There is no textbook so you gotta show up but it was never a problem making it to class
Latto is extremely funny and passionate about his work. The lectures were fun to attend and the actual content was very interesting. The tests are mostly memorization of terms and really only require a basic grasp of the concepts. No textbook required.
Even is one of the best lecturer's in the EEMB/MCDB departments. He makes seemingly dull subjects interesting, and is the most engaging lecturer I have had. Attendance is mandatory in his class as he explains most concepts verbally and does not write a lot on his slides that he tests on.
Latto is very passionate about diseases and ecology. He made the class interesting and engaging. Doesn't posts lectures online. No study guide but as long as you study the diseases and the notes from class, you're fine. Must memorize definitions of the terms and of diseases and what they do. Not cumulative for each test. One midterm and one final.
He makes lectures so enjoyable. He can be a little intimidating, but it just makes listening to lectures easier!
Wish he could teach every class, simply amazing professor.
EEMB40 is a lot of memorization, but for me it was so interesting that it wasn't even really hard to memorize. John Latto is a great lecturer and every lecture is super entertaining. He is also a fair grader and tells you the layouts of the midterm/test so you're more than ready for it. Go to class, take good notes, and you'll be fine.
Many students underestimate ecology because EEMB classes are stereo-typically easier than MCDB. Many pre-med students take this class and end up getting B's and C's because of this underestimation. To get an A, you must attend lecture and understand fundamental concepts behind the biological and physical characteristics that Even presents in class.
Real cool guy, he delivers his material straight to the point, and constantly requires the class to repeat shout out what he just taught as he goes along. Attendance is important because all test material comes from there. Book is not necessary. Tests are multi choice and short response. Def recommend!
Latto is by far one of the best professors at UCSB. He is passionate, intelligent, and a very great guy. He cares about his students, and will go the length to help you understand. Very easy to listen to, very understandable and interesting material in class. Overall a pretty easy class if you pay attention, which isn't hard when you have John.
Latto is one of the best professor's I've ever had. He is very passionate about what he teaches, cares a ton for his students, and all his lectures are super interesting. Basically study a day or two before the tests and you're good, and they are all super easy and straight forward. There's no textbook and all slides are online.
Latto is one of the best professors i've had the honor of having during my stay at UCSB. he makes lectures interesting so you actually want to go. plus, even though the notes are all online, it doesn't really make sense unless you go to the lectures. going to sections really helps too (weekly quizzes but they're fairly easy if you pay attention).
I LOVE Dr. Even! Due to unfortunate life events I got a D in the class. I couldn't really study. HOWEVER, I can confidently say that Dr. Even is the best professor you will take here at UCSB.(That might be a little biased but IDGAF) He is the type of professor you go to a University for. He is extremely caring, a fair tester and a simply amazing!!!
Incredible professor. Really cares about teaching and very enthusiastic and funny. Know examples presented in class well and concepts and you will do well. It is not so much about memorizing as it is understanding concepts. Uses life examples and different contexts for test questions. Loved this class so much!!
He is an excellent professor that is passionate about the work. His tests are very specific and don't have any curve balls. Its pretty much if you show up and take notes you'll pass but you'll need to briefly look over them for the final. Its honestly an easy A. lectures are not boring and all of the information is quite entertaining and useful.
Dr. Even is an amazing lecturer and is extremely easy to understand. He is funny and genuinely invokes your interest in the subject matter. Although ecology was a little boring (to me) I listened and studied and got an A. Just put in the effort, go to class, and you'll get an A too.
Great professor with a lot of humor! He has lots of enthusiasm about the material he teaches and comes to lecture prepared. I liked how he doesn't just read off the powerpoint and actually tries to talk to his students about the subject. HOWEVER I had a terrible TA who did know her materials and came to section unprepared.
Great Professor! He makes an otherwise boring topic interesting and while attendance is not mandatory, you want to go. His test was tricky but if you go to class and actually study it should not be that difficult.
AWW YISSSS Professor Latto is hands down one of the best professors I have had the pleasure of taking at UCSB. I took him last spring for EEMB 50 and absolutely loved it. The material is really interesting and kept me looking forward to lecture. Tests are easy and he grades fairly, lots of partial credit. His dry sense of humor is the BEST. 14/10
