You definitely have to read the textbook to get an understanding of the chapters. Geller provides the basics and connects them to biology, but nothing that was in the lectures was on the tests. The questions seem to get drastically tougher. The online homework is extremely annoying. I studied tremendously for the final and ended up with an A- on it
I took physics in highschool and found this class to be impossible. I used all my free time to study for this class and only got a C. He seems to be enthusiastic about the material but his teaching methods are hard to follow. He fails to give examples with actual numbers, leaving us confused on how to apply the equations/theories. TestsHARD
Most of the (many) issues I had with the course are due to the poor curriculum, which is set by the department and not the professor. However, Geller was often smug, condescending, and discouraged us from going to office hours for homework help. PHYS 1 is easy if you have taken AP Physics. If not, prepare for a long slog with little/no support.
Having never taken physics before, this class was ridicuoulsy tough for me. I thought Geller's lectures were confusing and students would get easily lost, teaching us only the basics and not providing good enough examples to succeed on the tests. I studied a ridiculous amount only to end up with a B-, and that's with a generous curve!
DO THOSE PRACTICE MIDTERMS!!! They will save you because most of his exams are just like his practice ones. Once you understand the concepts and how to solve each problem, then you'll be fine. His lectures are confusing because they are a bit confusing, but other than that he's an awesome professor! He's hilarious and chill af!!!!
Halfway through the quarter, and personally I dislike his teaching style. Lectures are pointless, only reason to go is because of iClicker points but otherwise you do not learn much through his lectures. The class is self-taught and he only provides demonstrations of the main concepts rather than actually going over what will be on tests.
Geller understands that people taking the physics 6 series are not physics majors and teaches accordingly. He tries to connect the lectures to biology and medicine concepts. Because it's physics its a difficult class but he grades fairly. His lectures can drag but it's very easy to ask questions in class and keep with the lecture. Uses iclicker.
Geller is the best professor hands down!! So fun and highly encourages class participation and questions. Lectures were interesting and he always had demos to keep it fun. Definitely recommend this class as an Area C requirement
Freud does a lot of example problems in class. He doesn't really explain the theory behind concepts and doesnt define variables. He changes the problems on the test so they're different from examples in class, so really understand the examples. Don't just try to memorize them. Try to understand the why because that's what will get you the A.
Geller is a chill homie. He is super cool and loves questions. You will leave the class wanting to take another one of his classes.
Freund is such a chill professor. His midterm and final are very similar to the practice ones so if you do those (and understand those problems), you'll do very well.
What will help you pass the class? Attend the lectures. The tests are identical to the problems that he does in class. If you review the material he posts and take good notes, you'll get a B easily. The effort you put in really makes a difference. He likes puns.
Geller really is a great great great professor even though I did not get an A. I realized that when I'm taking Lubin's 6B. Geller gives you the definition, a lot of exercises and examples during lecture. They really helps.
Prof Geller is a great teacher. He lectures on exactly whats going to be on the test. His tests are basically the Sapling assignments so be sure to go through them before each test. I got an A just by going to lecture and review notes and Sapling the day before the test.
Geller is eager to answer questions during lecture, and although there is assigned reading, the lectures cover most of the material so the textbook is only necessary for some terms or concept that you don't understand, and the homework. The class was pretty interesting
Robert Geller is a solid teacher. His lectures are not too boring and he encourages questions. If you pay attention and take notes you can do well. I felt like I really learned the material in the class.
Pretty cool guy in general, but he went really fast during lecture. You have to constantly keep up with his pace to understand the material of the class because he goes through the material quickly. His midterm and final were like past exams so study any past exams that he posts on Gauchospace. Take CLAS and go to his office hours if you want help.
He's seriously awesome. Enough said.
Professor Freund is clear, helpful, and hilarious. He does great demonstrations with the students.
Just an average physics class. If you took physics in high school, you'll be okay with just doing the homework and practice problems. I didn't buy the textbook and I got by just fine. Geller has really interesting in-class demonstrations. He's a funny guy, but his teaching lacks clarity. He makes lots of mistakes in lecture too. (iClicker needed)
Professor a fraud and un trustworthy beware
Practice practice practice especially if this is your first physics course like me. Not much homework midterm and final make up your whole grade. His lectures are disorganized at times and go really quickly so make sure you ask a lot of questions if you''re stuck. He''s a really funny guy full of energy fair grader.
Though the material is not that hard, Prof. Geller makes the class annoyingly more difficult. He grades homework based on accuracy, which is somewhat annoying. The lectures are pretty helpful, and he doesn't assign insane amounts of homework, but the fact that he grades homework and uses iClicker means attendance is pretty much mandatory.
Prof Freund is a great guy! Pretty hilarious actually, and a good teacher as long as you're keeping up with the class. It's easy to get behind though, especially in summer, so go to class and pay attention and you'll do fine.
