This is one of my favorite COMM classes I've taken at UCSB! Content was really interesting and relevant, and Prof Pandey was super engaging during lectures. The group project was structured well in my opinion and he also gives out A+s. Super nice and encourages students to come to office hours. Would totally take again!
Each week we were assigned readings, had to respond to a discussion prompt & then respond to another classmate, and then a short 10 question open note/book quiz. I learned a lot from this class and a lot of the material was really engaging, even the pre-recorded lecture videos as they were quite short. Super easy A and wasn't much work at all
got cooked on a couple of the tests and still ended up with a B+. super nice, apparently the course is supposed to not be as proofs based but honestly she still made it great. the stats department at ucsb is absolutely terrible but she stands out as a great professor.
Shes a great professor and lecturer but the class is very proof heavy (you just have to memorize them not like formulate them). theres 2 class exams, one midterm, pop quizzes, 4 homeworks and a final project. grades pretty nicely and is very friendly. dense lectures and a lot of material though
Pandey is amazing at teaching proofs. She explains every proofs very clearly and intuitively, but this is not what this course is supposed to be about. I expect to learn more about analysis based on coding in this course, but clearly this is not what I experienced. I would recommend her to teach classes like 120 rather than 126.
Pandey makes something overwhelming like data science + Python coding into something that anyone could understand and maybe even enjoy. I had 0 data science or coding experience before this class. The way that he teaches makes it not scary or overwhelming at all and he could not be nicer. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Kanu is such a kinda and considerate professor. It was his first time teaching the course but he was a great teacher and I learned a lot. Very approachable and the exams were very doable and similar to the study guide. Not a lot of work outside of class and the final group project was not as intimidating as it seemed!
I really enjoyed Professor Pandey's classes. He is very attentive to the students' needs, providing clear lectures and straightforward instructions for exams. He actively seeks to engage with students and fosters communication and interaction among them. I highly recommend!
Pandey is a young and engaging professor. She hold pop-quizzes, and has three midterms plus a final, but with decent studying and homework prep, they are very fair. She is super personable in office hours and clearly wants students to do well in the class and understand the material.
Very fair professor, while the content can be difficult her lecture slides are very detailed and she explains them very well. There are 2 "class exams", a midterm and a final so it can be a lot but she gives plenty of resources to help study for them. Difficult class but study well and take advantage of an amazing professor and you will be fine!
Puja Pandey is the goat. Explains fairly dense material in an intuitive way. 4 homeworks (30%, part writing/theoretical, part coding, lowest dropped), 6 pop quizzes (10%, lowest dropped), 2 in-class exams, 1 midterm, 1 final (all exams 20% each). Very fair study guide questions and exam difficulties, super nice in OH.
Pandey is QUEEN. Her lectures are very well structured, and she reinforces the stuff she goes over within the same lecture over and over. Her tests are basically the same structure and format as her practice exams. I was never scared of any pop-quizzes because she prepares you so well. Her outfit slays sometimes. LOVE HER LET HER KNOW SHE IS LOVED.
Kanu is one of the best Comm profs I've had :) He is a new lecturer but he is extremely caring towards his students and is absolutely hilarious. Since 187 is "Data Science" Comm, it is heavy on beginner coding and data analysis, but the content/assignments are taught step-by-step and are very doable and easy to master even for coding newbies.
Very nice professor and cares about her students. Lectures are decent, but a lot of the time she was covering proofs and other less important topics, so I did not know what I needed to know for the final until the week before. Office hours are really good though and she is really good at answering questions.
Nothing is wrong at all with Pandey as a professor. She has really nice lectures and is super super willing to help. But 126 as a class was very useless. We learned proofs the whole quarter and then randomly got a coding final proj at the end. To be honest I do not know how this class has helped me at all to become a data scientist.
We learned MINIMAL coding in R from Pandey, there were optional labs that the TA's ran. Our final project was in R but she waited until 4 days before to post clear instructions and then graded only on that. My friend who is more knowledgeable than me received a poorer grade because of this. I would not recommend, try to get another professor.
Professor Pandey is one of the best PSTAT professors on campus. She is amazing in office hours and really wants you to digest and learn the material. She is personable and responds to emails and seems to really care about her students. 3 class exams, 1 midterm, homework, pop quizzes, and a final project. But nothing was particularly horrible.
126 was supposed to be a coding class, but with Pandey it was a proofs class. Wouldn't respond to my emails either and would send out last minute help on the homework and project when she should've days before. Final was a coding project with extremely vague instructions and we didn't learn any actual coding all quarter.
Take Pandey if you can she's great
- Tests were very reasonable - Homework sometimes was on material that hadn't fully been covered in class, but otherwise was fine. - Lectures usually had straightforward definitions and explanations, but sometimes could've used more examples
Best professor in the PSTAT department, 4 exams and 1 final project. Very good in her lecture.
Best professor ever in the PSTAT department. Very caring. Lectures are mandatory because there will be online pop quizzes, but they are easy. 4 test + 1 final project. Sounds a lot, but the tests are easy if you follow her lectures. She explains every proof so well. Easy A and you will learn a lot! Again, best prof ever.
Remember to go the office hour, really helps a lot. Very kind professor, always willing to help students understand the knowledge points.
Good professor and really care students, but sometimes the proof and guides for homework is kind of vague but overall really good! recommend!
