Her class had a lot of busy work which I wasn't a fan of, but it was all easy and as long as you put in the time an A is super achievable. She's also the sweetest, most approachable person ever and will remember/say hi to you quarters after you've taken the class
Prof. Woods is hard and gives a lot of work, but she is very fair and makes sure that if you do the work, attend class, and actively engage with her content, you will be rewarded with a greater understanding of psychology and neuroscience. She is not a prof you want to take if you want an easy A, but will definitely make you a better scientist.
She is unaccommodating, and condescending towards students. She isn't inspiring and thinks that she's better than other professors because she makes students do a lot of work.
I've had woods 3 times, can definitely tell she really wants to be a good teacher. Her classes are pretty labor intensive, but she tries her hardest to make everything fair. sometimes there's questions or assignments that were unclear to me though sometimes.
I appreciate her enthusiasm and her lectures are helpful. I hated all the group projects and Eli review stuff is a pain but since there are so many assignments you can mess up and still do okay. Good professor but the class design is strange.
She gives so much extra work worth minimal points that take so much time, like 5% for Eli review which takes hours to properly respond! Also your grade heavily relies on group work (30%) and how many hours you spend detailing each take home home exam. Less than 12 hours? You'll get an F on that exam. More memorization than actual learning.
Of all of my professors, Dr. Woods made the switch to online curriculum the most bearable. She communicated throughout the week, and provided detailed suggestions for how you should organize your study time. She was very accommodating if you took the time to reach out.
Dr. Woods is super enthusiastic when she teaches, which makes learning a lot more fun. I wish every professor would have this passion for helping their students understand what is being taught. By far my favorite class that I have taken at UCSB.
Probably the worst professor I've had at UCSB. I've had her for 3 classes now.. her classes are not hard at all, but she is so bad. She contradicts the book, herself, her slides, her syllabus.. I sit through her lectures or talk to her in office hours and think how did THIS lady become a professor.. anyways, easy classes, but terribly spent time.
Favorite teacher and class by far at UCSB- she is very clear and good at explaining things, her tests can be challenging but are extremely fair- if you study the slides you will get an A
This class had a lot of busy work that in the end didn't really help with the final assignment. Her lectures were not very easy to follow but you can access them online afterwards. She does use location based iclicker for attendance
Woods was a very good professor. The lectures were mandatory but if you paid attention the exams were manageable. Exams were open note, open book as well. The research paper felt daunting in the beginning but there were many assignments along the way to help build it. There is lots of busy work in the beginning that lightens up towards the end.
This class is very unorganized and the lectures are all over the place. Most of the content reviewed in lecture wasn't helpful for the final paper that is worth 35% of the grade. The final paper was very confusing and time-consuming.
SO MUCH BUSY WORK and you get no feedback. not a lot of clear criteria about the research proposal so it has been difficult writing it. the individual exams are also very difficult but she is a great professor.
Professor Woods is generally engaging, but the class has a lot of busy work. Exams are fair, and the research paper is manageable with proper guidance. Attendance is mandatory, but Unstuckstudy can be a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.
laughed at me when i went to office hours to ask a question. thats it.
Dr. Woods is so helpful & passionate. Very accessible, I recommend going to OH. There's a lot of busy work & attendance is mandatory but it's not hard and it comes together in the end. 2 indiv. online + group in-person midterms but they're easy. Final research paper that you get a lot of guidance on and the rest of the grade is from lab/section.
Professor Woods was an excellent teacher!! enthusiastic about the content and explains things well. learned so much and have a great understanding of the course material that I will retain for a long time. She really teaches to think critically, and to use and apply knowledge... not just to memorize one day and throw out the next.
I took Prof. Woods for both Psy 10A and 120L, and I recommend avoiding taking classes with her. She assigns way too much busy work each week. The only good thing about her class is that exams are take-home. Attendance is mandatory, but her lectures are a complete waste of time in my opinion. She's also very passive aggressive.
This class was extremely easy and amazing for getting comfortable with classes at UCSB! You work in groups and get to meet new people and learn how to read research articles and discuss them. Woods is a great professor and really knows what she is talking about.
I had Woods for 10A and I loved her. The class focuses on writing a research proposal, and there is a clear and well organized system that slowly sets you up to writing it. Woods really knows what she is talking about, and is available and ready for questions. She can come off a bit intense, but she is very nice and willing to help.
her class felt like we had no other classes going on and had all the time in the world for that one class. the things worth 5% took hours to do but the things worth 20% suspiciously took 2 minutes? graded the take home exam super harshly and was overall annoying. no.
I found Dr. Woods engaging and caring. Tests were fair, lots of different things go into the grade so plenty of ways to get points. Research paper is daunting but follow guidelines and start early. Dr. Woods was super helpful one on one and made herself extra available when the TAs struck. Overall loved this class!
I spent a lot of time on the proposal and followed the A examples to a T. However, I still only received an A- on the paper. All the prep and busy work didn't help me do any better on the proposal, as I had changed all my details by the final paper anyways. Lectures were long and she took a long time to explain simple concepts. Hardish tests
