This class was so easy, practice exams were basically the tests given. Webwork hw was also so similar to the tests. Also get a cheatsheet and extra credit. The final avg was a 55%, but I thought it was insanely easy. The other people in class prob weren't trying tbh. Also lecture notes are posted, so don't even go. Easiest class I've taken here.
The professor gave us a really detailed guide for practice exams, including side-by-side comparisons between exam problems and WebWork, which was super helpful. Honestly, there was nothing to complain about. As an international student, I was shocked to see how many people still cheated during the exam, even we were allowed to use an A4 cheatsheet.
Worst professor I have had at UCSB. Extremely rude to students and wants you to fail. First midterm and final average were in the 50% range and he claimed that was ideal. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
class is graded on webwork, two midterms, & a final (best exam is weighed more, +10%). he listened to criticism, adding partial credit & offering points back after midterm 1. his practice exams were almost identical to the real ones + you can use a cheat sheet on all exams. clas tutorial groups were more helpful in explaining the material :/
Horrible lectures, and even worse exams. Simply does not teach material that is presented on exams. Do not take
Would not recommend. Confusing lectures and very difficult tests. Mean for final was 55% take porter
averages of 55% on a math 34B final is kinda insane. take porter
Prof shared an announcement after the final, saying ChatGPT found a high level of similarity between the practice exam and the final. AI Era 🤣
This course is not hard in general but the professor is not good at teaching. The course is graded off 20% webwork, 20% mid 1, 20% mid 2, 25% final, and max grade of your three exams 10%. There are no calculators allowed on exams and he gives very specific numbers but you are allowed a full page cheat sheet. I would not recommend this teacher.
- did not explain the answers he got on problems in class, often would just give the answer - quiet as hell despite being told to speak up - gave literally just the answer on the midterm practice solutions, AND the actual midterm was way harder. - hard to understand - bad handwriting - by far, in general, one of the worse professors here.
This is my first upper course. I worried about failing this course but prof Zhou asked us to focus on learning fundamental. In the end, he curved generously. 59% of weight grades get C.
This class was really tough for me, but Professor Zhou did an amazing job explaining all the complicated terms and was super generous with grading. Plus, he is such a kind person that I never felt nervous about asking “silly” questions about basic math stuff during office hours. Hard class, but an awesome professor!
Honestly nothing to complain about. You're expected to know lecture + textbook content and that's what's on the exams. Exams consistently averaged 50-60% but curved GENEROUSLY at the end.
Well-organized lectures and clear explanations. Give make-up points for midterms. Put efforts and time to help students understand course materials.
The course was well, I wish it wasn't an 8am
Pretty clear on grading, offers a couple bonus points on exams. Practice exam and hw is almost identical to real exam-allows full page cheat sheet. I'm not the best at math but I've done just fine in the class so far. Drops lowest two hw scores and also bumps your grade for attending section. Does not curve exams however. Is fair, just put in work
The professor adhered closely to the textbook but presented the material in a way that never felt like he was simply reading from it. He constantly provided examples, highlighted connections between concepts, and posed questions to deepen our understanding of the material.

I thoroughly enjoyed his class, especially the engaging step-by-step teaching style and the helpful class materials that really supported my learning. Bohan's courses have deepened my understanding of mathematical proofs.
It took me a bit to get used to his lecture style. But he keeps a good pace and makes sure his notes are really clear. He's probably the most understanding and supportive prof I've had in the math department. He gives lots of chances to ask questions in class, and if you do, he'll take the time to explain things.
Explained all concepts very thoroughly, and gave practice materials that prepped you very much for the exams.
Did not give clear responses to a lot of relevant questions. Focused mainly on teaching formulas as opposed to building actual understanding of vector calculus (you might or might not prefer this). Tests were EXACTLY like the practice tests, drawback is that there's 0 partial credit.
Fantastic professor. Lectures were organized and the exams are basically the same as the practice exams. She gives A LOT of extra credit, my final score were actually 106%. HW are not very hard and she explain one or two of the HW questions during class. If you spend time in doing HW and understanding the practice exams then you are guarantee an A.
Bad grader. Horrible at explaining concepts. Speaks very quietly in class and gives bad examples during class. The class is very easy, but the homework problems do not compare at all. I would not take his classes again.
