Professor Kennedy is easily of the best overall professors here at UCSB. His class is laid-back and he is straight forward in his teaching. There are usually 2 homework quizzes a week that he assigns based on the textbook. He is well rounded, funny, and a very understanding professor if you communicate with him. Would easily take his class again.

I didn't really enjoy the class since it doesn't have much to do with my major. The professor, however, is funny, interesting, and straightforward with his lectures. There is a lot of memorization.

Kennedy knows his stuff. His lectures are content heavy but presented in a very clear way. Whenever students have questions, he is able to answer them with much clarity. Took it with Yi-Yang as my TA and loved him as well, very smart and approachable. Would recommend them both and this class highly!

Bob is the homie. Listen up for his subtle, yet clearly good natured humor and jokes. Make sure to peep his lunchbox, which he brings to class every day. The selection of hawaiian shirts is also phenomenal. Bob also handles all the idiotic questions from linguistic freaks with great ease. This is a good class to take just because of the professor.

I passed the class, but I barely did the online homework so if I had put in more effort to do the homework and study, I would have gotten a better grade. It was an interesting subject/class.

Kennedy might not be an actual professor, but he knows his linguistics. Section attendance is graded, but isn't super essential to passing. The tests are mostly book based, which doesn't provide a whole lot of practice problems so that's where lecture comes in. On a side note, he does have good taste in Hawaiian shirts. Great class!

Amusing and very knowledgeable. Read and go to lecture and take notes if you want to pass. Kennedy talks slowly but sometimes moves through slides a bit too fast. Be careful with the TAs; mine was competent but my friends in other sections didn't have such an easy time. Midterm and final aren't easy, but put in effort and you will do okay.

Knows what he's doing, can actually teach, not boring, tries to keep things interesting and sometimes humorous.

Took this fall quarter, and realized that Kennedy is a really chill guy and has a weird but funny sense of humor! I enjoyed his class even when he got a little monotonous sometimes. Class wasn't necessarily mandatory but it helped so much, if someone was just trying to read the online text, they may not have understood the material. Cool class!

I loved Professor Kennedy. He could be a little monotone but he had his spontaneous funny moments. I would recommend taking this class, I thought it was an easy A.

Kennedy was an alright teacher. I felt part of the lecture was interesting but they tended to get boring at times. The class was interesting for the most part. Make sure you do the readings though. NO TEXTBOOK!! The assignments are a big part of your grade so don't bs them. They are important. Joseph is a pretty good TA as well.

The class is nothing you expect, its more the science of language. At the beginning it is really tough, but after a few assignments you understand what is expected. Definitely go to office hours of TAs or you will be screwed on assignments. Kennedy isn't too helpful. Assignments are 40% of your grade. Not an easy class, midterm is really specific.

Kennedy leads a very fun class. He shows entertaining video clips (SNL, stand-up comedy, etc) to demonstrate what he is teaching about. He material is usually interesting because it is so immediately applicable to everyday life. Online readings instead of textbook (which aren't required), barely any homework.

Kennedy is not very friendly and never wants to hand you answers, even if it would be part of an explanation. He is pretty condescending. For this class, do the reading (really), attend lecture, and section. They do not do a good job explaining the assignments, but go with gut feelings and try to get points. Asngmts are useful in learning material.

Ling20 The material is harder than expected; if I wasn't interested in linguistics I would have hated it. Assignments are worth 40% of the grade and they usually aren't explained that well, but practice assignments are gone over in section. He is very wary of grade grubbers, and therefore can be unhelpful when asked questions. I enjoyed the class

This class is more difficult than one would think. Material is tough, but not impossible. Section is not mandatory but is very helpful. Assignments are worth 50% so put effort into it and don't miss any. Kennedy doesn't give the best definitions but he is a decent teacher. Tests are very fair.

He's a kinda goofy guy, and be goes through lectures as fast as he can talk. Fairly difficult and involved class, but it's the subject matter and not the prof. Go to class everyday, do all the assignments, do all the reading, and you should be fine.

Informational lectures, one of the nicest professors I've had, clear grading requirements. One of the best GEs.

Great & funny guy, good area C GE since you're not really doing math. Class can be VERY tiresome because the topic isn't all that interesting. Exams are short and not heavily weighted. Bombed my exams and still got a B. Short weekly online quizzes you can redo until you get full points. Can be confusing at times but would recommend. He loves memes!

Prof Kennedy is an awesome guy! His lectures are really interesting and he has a great sense of humor. SUPER understanding and really does care about his students. Tests are reasonable if you attend the lectures. Most of the test content comes from lectures. Eli review assignment is easy points if you do all parts. 100% would recommend this class.

Slideshow with no pictures guide lectures. Material is generally dry for someone with basic background knowledge in linguistics, with occasional jokes. Concepts are well explained with examples used to parse out distinctions. Weekly checkpoints have an unlimited number of attempts and usually detailed feedback.

Kennedy is very caring about students and passionate about what he's teaching! The class was very easy (albeit a bit boring), slides/skimming the readings are enough for exams. Section attendance is mandatory though IIRC.
