She gives a lot of weekly assignments and quizzes that you must complete for a good grade. You must attend in class lectures to really get a good grade as well. If you do not show up or slack off then you will not get a good grade. She is also not a good lecturer and really does not teach well. All she does is talk about how she used to play bball.

Speaks very fast in lectures. Lots of reading and weekly quizzes, but they're for credit, not graded, so that is good. No extra credit, no curves, you get the grade you earned from doing the work all quarter or not. Weekly participation forums in class. Overall, do the work, be present, and you will do well.

Class is super interesting but a lot of work for a 3 unit class. Two exams 75pts each, final paper (research) 100pts. Weekly participation assignments that total 100pts and easy hw assignments worth 100pts (can re do q until you get 100). Do NOT take this class if you hate bio or if you are looking for an easy A!!! Personally really enjoyed it :)

She is very nice, but the workload is super excessive, especially for a class that's only worth 3 units. I would not take this course again. The quizzes are extensive as well as the lectures and the amount of information you need to know is also broad. A nice woman but this class is way too much work for it's worth.

Very unengaging and monotone lecturer. Made a class I was honestly really interested in taking kinda boring. Don't expect much from this class, it's pretty much just ESS 3 with some basic sports application. Slade also just reads off slides, and each time I watched a lecture it seemed as if she didn't even bother reviewing it before discussing it.

I had high expectation for this class, being that I was very interested in the subject. Unfortunately the class was a lot more biology based than applied. I was hoping guest lecturers would tell fun stories but they were all mostly just professors talking about neurotransmitters and stuff like that. Slade was OK, not terrible but not great.

She's a really nice person, but she goes through slides extremely fast, theres quizzes almost weekly and a fairly easy paper. If you study you'll do fine, but its not easy

She seemed like a very passionate teacher but she went through the lecture slides too fast and did not teach that well. In addition, her tests are very hard in comparison to the material she taught.

What I didn't like about ESS2 was the fact that she had guest lecturers for every single lecture except for 3. When she did lecture, she was unenthusiastic and went through slides very quickly. I started taking pictures of slides instead of typing the information down because it was too fast. There's 1 test and a group project that are fairly easy.

Slade has to be one of the worst professors at UCSB, she likes to speak to students like children. She doesn't seem to have a clue what she assigned and what she didn't. For an UD elective, the workload is ridiculous considering there isn't even an associated major. Read the book, skip the lectures, or just don't take anything with Dr. Slade.

She cares about attendance which is weird given that she teaches adults; must be a power thing. However... the class was easy and informative. I hope her son is doing well. You get the opportunity to learn from his bad habits.

Posted videos lack organization and clarity. One posted "lecture" was a 38 minute audio recording from class a previous quarter. Material is intuitive, and no real implications from course content other than "you should exercise"

This class is harder and more work than you think for UD elective. Weekly discussion posts, quizzes, and you have to turn in your lecture notes for participation. A TON of reading as well. Does Not go into detail on her slides at all, I can learn better by reading the book alone. Tests are proctored online at terrible times (weekends) as well.

Dr. Slade is definitely passionate about the topic of sports psychology, but it's a lot of work for an elective class. Weekly quizzes, discussions, a writing assignment, and a huge paper is A LOT for someone that just needed some extra UD credit. If you have a passion for exercise it's worth it, but be prepared to work.

Professor Slade has been nothing but impressive, and I would retake her and recommend her courses. Her courses are easy to understand, organized, straightforward, and she is genuinely a fantastic professor and wants the best for all her students. If you do the readings and watch the lectures, you will do well in the course! 10/10 recommend.

Dr. Slade's classes were some of my absolute favorite at UCSB. She is very enthusiastic about the subjects she teaches and genuinely cares about student well-being. For the paper, I recommend emailing the students she has as TAs and then talking with her. There are opportunities for students to get more involved in the ESS program too.

The class was well structured and the content was VERY interesting. Easy A if you put in the work.

I'm someone who rarely gives reviews for things (be it for professors, restaurants, or bowling places). My experience with Dr. Slade's class was nothing but enjoyable. The class is so straightforward and the path to an easy A is laid out for you. If you're looking for an enjoyable class in an online format with a professor that cares- this is it !!

Very much did not like this class or professor. Professor Slades slides are so boring and she just reads off the slides. You could read the book and get a better understanding. A lot of unnecessary busy work. The small papers had dumb prompts that didn't test your knowledge and just added stress to the rest of the workload.

I actually had a lot of fun in this class. Some days we had in class assignments that were either active or got us thinking. You gotta read and show up to class, but she was really nice in class and in office hours. I gained a lot of skills to take with me outside of class too. I don't think she went fast, plus she posts the slides from lecture.

AWFUL. Terrible lecturer, tells you that she's going to go fast through slides and to just get it from textbook. She makes it mandatory attendance but lecture is pointless since she doesn't explain anything. TA does everything and she tells you to get help solely from the TA. She is the worst

lots of reading needed to finish even the first quizzes, time is so limited for the quizzes.
